a families need for flesh food, when one ALSO gets small game, birds, fish, etc. So the CLAIM of a "need" to take big animals at more than 100m is just a reflection of IGNORANCE and ineptitude. There's LOTS morefish than land animals, and the fish are MUCH easier to take, and to "hold prisoner", than are land animals. That means that you don't have to waste time, exposure, salt in CURING their flesh. You keep them LIVE, in small pools, fish traps, etc, *******.

If you can't get within 100m of a big critter, once a month, LIVING out there with them, you are nothing but a lame. anyone worthy of the name of "hunter' can get within 20m of such a critter, once a week, and hit it in the eye socket with a subsonic 22lr.

Distance from hunter to game depends on where you live. The large cal centerfire rifle is used for more than hunting. While you are correct that animals can be harvested with the 22rf I would still want my 308.
