effect, if consider that the 44-40 lfp WASTES 1/3rd+ of its 600 ft lbs on overpenetration, while a good 223 sp uses ALL of its remaining 600 ft lbs at 200m. A good handload, using the 60 gr Hornady VMax will achieve just that. Since the .44 sufficed at bow and arrow ranges, on MUCH tougher men, and since 200m well covers over 95% of the NON-ACCIDENTAL hitting done in combat, and since at longer ranges, such a wound renders the man no longer a threat to you, the 11" 223 has plenty of poop. You just have to load it properly, that's all.
Anyone who'd like to bet a year's pay, that a scoped, 11" 223 wont get over 50% hits on a 12"x24" torso, at 400 yds, I'd like to take you up on it.
Over 50% is NOT luck, ya know. So anybody who "thinks" an 11" 223 is nothing but a "glorified pistol" is an ignorant fool. Such a scoped 223 has TWICE the effective range of the typical 30 AK, using typical ball ammo in the AK. Since the same fool "thinks" that the AK has enough range, he's fos about the 11" 223 not having plenty.
