why not start both at low ready? Tactical shotguns can be carried that way - I know because I've carried one. Why does it have to be a pump? why not a semi? why no optic for the shotgun?
apples to apples and all that - of course you're using crutches and constraints to shape the argument. But are you comparing weapons or gimmicks vs no gimmicks?
I get it, you can't handle a shotgun - they are loud, scary, and have recoil that is greater than a .22
but in their envelope, a shotgun is a very formidable weapon, wouldn't be my choice for all around use, but I could make it work for me if I had to. You can use slugs, shot of many sizes and types, breeching rounds for busting hinges quickly, Non-lethal rounds if you want, novelty rounds that can start fires, flechettes (reminds me I have a box or two tucked away somewhere now I have to go look), and so forth.
You'd lose the bet about most of the shotgunners I know, at least those using tactical shotguns. Go watch a three gun match sometime. You might want to re-evaluate your thought process Though I know you won't, because you're too closed minded.
