24" 223 is NO LONGER or heavier than 308 auto rifle, and with 80 gr vld's, still has 500 ft lbs left at 700 yds. With 75 gr vmax sp's, it's still got 500 ft lbs left at 500 yds, still has 1800 fps, still EXANDS that sp. So you get hit like you would at 10 ft, from a 4" 357, using 125 gr jhp's. In other words, you are DONE being a threat to anyone who is 500 yds from you and is just openly, head on prone towards you. You are done being a threat to anyone who is using cover at a mere 200 yds from you, because, your blood pressure dropping like a rock, you can't FOCUS enough to hit such targets, before you DIE.

Okay good. The 20" AR is an effective weapon with the right ammo. Depending on the conditions in my AO, I wouldn't hesitate to carry one though I still prefer the 308. What you said about the 20 incher DOES not apply to the shorty CAR though.

Great if you want to go into combat with a single shot rifle! I'll stay with the reliability of a 7.62mm NATO rifle though.

None of this has anything remotely to do with your shorty AR that you proclaim we must use, in fact posts like these are arguments AGAINST your shorty AR. And hilariously require specialized ammo to boot. I'm not even going to address your totally fucked up view of how combat works and what is or isn't feasible for the average 11B to do with a rifle.

if it is no heavier than the .308, I'll stick with a .308 and not convert my rifle to a single shot.

80gr VLD is a single load round only.

It does not work at mag or cut out mag length.

75gr vmax sp doesn't exist, there's no such thing.
This. Freakshow bullets that turn your supposed 'fighting' gun into a single shot are an insanely bad idea. And it's worth emphasizing that it doesn't just turn your semiauto into a 'manually-operated repeater' like a lever action or bolt action rifle; it turns it into an honest to goodness single shot. Good lord.

And also correct that there simply is no such thing as a 75-grain VMAX bullet in 223/224 caliber. So clearly the performance data is simple fabrication/assumption. We know it isn't true, measured data gathered by actually using this bullet, because this bullet doesn't exist. But it sure sounds nifty, if we're willing to settle for daydreaming and pontificating about guns, rather than actually using actual guns with actual bullets that actually exist...

and a 168 gr Barnes VOR-TX outperforms it at that distance, still functions from the magazine, and is a factory offering.

so how does this compare to your shorty AR with 10" barrel? Clearly your chosen gun isn't up to the task, or you would have used it in this example.
