and will take the latter, too, MESSILY and slowly, with special ammo. All you really have to do to CAUSE the death of an elephant is put half a dozen holes IN one lung. I did NOT say shoot CLEAN THRU that lung, dumbass. With a solid bronze, hollowbased round nosed bullet, 90 grs at 2300 fps or so in the CAR, penetration of 15+" of flesh is guaranteed. The lung is a target about 2 FEET SQUARE. That AINT hard to hit a BUNCH of times, in 1-2 seconds, from 50 ft and less, even on an animal that's in full flight. 5-6 hits in that circle, 3-4 bullets MISS those rib bones, and there you go. The animal is coughing up blood from one lung, aspirating it into the other lung, so it dies within a few hours.

HAVING to take an elephant is a great rarity, even for a survivalist in the parts of Africa where those beasts are commonplace. The 223 can easily brain any lesser animal, so there's really ZERO reason to believe that you need MORE power than the 223, for ANYTHING, really. All othershtf rifle choices require you to give up the silencer, .22 unit, concealment, GI rd, mags, parts, drop in luminous sights, one hand use, etc. So they are bad choices for shtf, period.

223 handily takes any animal short of tuskers
Depends upon the range and the barrel. I see now you're trying to use bronze bullets to prop up your theories.

You won't get anything like that performance from your beloved "CAR" so give it up. Several .22 hits in a lung will NOT necessarily kill an elephant. Remember with those bronze bullets, you won't be getting any fragmentation or expansion, so you'll just be making itty bitty holes, which have been PROVEN to not stop HUMANS, much less dangerous game. Such lightweights WILL NOT penetrate the thick bone of Cape Buff or Rhino, and may not do the trick on a hippo, I also wouldn't put money on it making it through an elephant's rib bones. Light & fast does not give good penetration, and that's been proven, over and over.

Let's not forget hippos.I'd very much like to see a 223 armed(?:))shottist take on one of those.

guys with 44's have done so, with body shots. Any range you can get such a hit with .44 revolver, I can EASILY brain the critter with scoped, canned CAR-15. The fact that YOU dont have such ability and balls means nothiing, other than your being an inept chicken****.

How about the fact that our experience in marksmanship train suggests to us that using a heavier caliber will ensure that any danger to our lives is minimized. That simple. Your recent experience is exceptionally limited, virually non existent, so its understandable where your concepts originate from. As for morale courage, I'm sure you would be terrified of some of the things that some of us deal with on a daily basis. This is the way I'll be dressed Tuesday morning, wanna walk in my shoes?

Gunboob has as much experience as my dog has in driving cars. He as never been to Africa and never will. He knows nothing on that subject. If he 'thinks' he does, then he should prove it... go to Africa with his POS CAR and just try it on a Cape Buffalo.

Actually, most dangerous game shots are inside 50 yards, with real guns. Too bad you can't handle anything more than a .22 without flinching too bad to hit anything. You lose again GoonKid.
