http://www.smammo.com/5-56nato-223rem/ One of these into the gas tank of a vehicle and nobody will be using THAT vehicle to travel or for cover! :) A few of them aimed at a chopper will make said chopper back off half a mile or so, too. Giving you time and space to get down a manhole, cover up with space blanket (nighttime). If they can't hover over you, they can't give real time info to the ground force. Without belt feds and rockets, they can't do anything to you from a chopper (that you need to worry about). It's much easier for you to hit that chopper (from cover) than it is for them to hit you (behind cover) You can hear/see that chopper from a long ways off, so cover IS going to be feasible for you.

Crap, the BOB just got a lb heavier

Who's choppers are we shooting down? Why? Are we under attack? What is going on, have not heard anything on news yet. Have we declared war on someone? Hey FordPerfect, you are the Marine door gunner, what the hell is going on? Who we shooting at anyway!

anybody who's hanging over our heads with choppers, of course. why shoot at just random ones? Not enough ammo for that and they are very hard to hit unless nearly hovering over you.

Melvin, you really think that Roufoss (proper spelling is RAUFASS) will deal with an individual. Having dealt with them prior to retirement from a Defence Research position, I can tell you that they won't. They do produce nice quality ammunition though.

Are we back off our meds again? Been reading "Unintended Consequences" again have we? You do know Melvin, that it is fiction don't you? All 479 pages of it.

I've had helicopters hovering over me more than once; as recently as last Thursday for that matter. Was pulling security video at the scene of a homicide for the police. Never occurred to me to shoot at the chopper; I was concentrating on not stepping in the blood of a guy who I'd known for 20+ years.

RIP, Charlie.

Seriously John, you'll have a much happier life if you'll find something to fill your day other than daydreams of killing people in some apocalyptic future. The future will be whatever it will be, no amount of angry daydreaming about how awesomely awful it'll be will change it one way or the other, and "each day has enough trouble of its own." (Jesus said that, btw. Matthew 6)

Successful hiding seems unlikely..

Helicopters can generally use smoke or flares to mark a target, and certainly don't need to hover (except in movies) in order to do so..

Sorry for your loss John
Not a close friend or anything, just a guy I've known for a long time. He was a customer of ours, we were a customer of his; plus the inevitable small-town encountering each other. Never even been to his home, so again not like he was a real 'friend' or anything. Goes with the job to some degree - preventing bad things and cleaning up after bad things is just the nature of it.

But he didn't deserve to be gunned down by a smiling lunatic in his place of business; and I just had walk around pools of his and his wife's blood (she lived) and watch it all repeatedly in high-def while gathering evidence as a favor for the police. Some juries, I would just love to be on...
