take bullet wt in grains, multiply by velocity squared (in fps) and divide by 450,000. It's really 450,454(or something close) but all that does is complicate the matter, for no reason. I usually just drop 3 zeros off of the product, and divide by 450. I can do most such calculations either in my head, or with pen and pad, in mere seconds. For instance, 230 grs x 800c800 fps, , is 147,200,000. Drop the 3 last zeroes. Divide 147,200, by 450, you get 300 ft lbs and some change, like 25 ft lbs.

.45 ACP is limited to about 2100 fps, 70 grs. 4" barrel

and that is too marginal for reliable AP performance with such a blunt, large frontal area bullet. It's borderline for reliable creation of the 3 separate wound channels, with the Split Nose design, and marginal for the ability for the temporary cavity to damage fragile chest organs. Which are some of the reasons I went with the 460 Rowland case. Another was the ability to safely get hollowbased, 90 gr swc's to 2100 fps in 4". That's a really nice "extra", for when you want to or need to take large critters with the ccw pistol.

they're fos. 185 grs, 1450-1500 fps, is JUST as hard to control as a full charge .44 mag, in a 4" barrel. Your split times will be DOUBLE what they can be, and for no good reason at all.

Perhaps. Not going to be an issue with me, though, because I will be carring the pistol in .45 configuration; the Rowland will be for defensive purposess against deer. ;)

have to check out the penetration, of course. I'd have no doubts about an exit wound being attainable with the 185 gr load, if sideways to ribs. 1/4 angle shot, tho would be "iffy" about that.

…if 356 and 460 were the world standard, wouldn't need to bother with the inferior loads in 9x19 and .45, either.
And once again, if I were younger, richer, and better looking, there’d be no need for Brad Pitt.

…when everyone with any sense is carrying an autorifle everywhere
I’ve asked numerous times before, but when in human history has this ever happened?

Even in times of full-blown war, a lot of people – including a lot of military personnel – don’t have a rifle with them every minute. So other than in some Survivalist or Endworld fiction, when has this scenario ever happened?

Fwiw, I used to read a bunch of those kind of books. The Survivalist, Endworld, Mac Wingate, Mack Bolan, Endworld, Blade, Defender, The Warlord, you name it. But they’re fiction. It’s time to let them go and embrace being a septuagenarian. If for no other reason than because even in those stories, the imaginary action hero was never portrayed as being my age, much less yours.

And if you’d just participate in the conversations you throw sermons into, I’d stop pointing out your inconsistencies this way.

Even just back up some of your claims of prowess that get constantly blurted out & then abandoned. You can do it for free (I did a little 2-minute youtube video this weekend; cost nothing but ammo), you can do it completely legally (with airsoft or whatever), etc. It’s free, it’s legal, and it would put the rest of us in our place, wouldn’t it..?

I stopped believing just about everything Melvin has posted since 2004. The shooting of Pet's (testing loads he say's) to his Army Fairy Tales, (shooting Birds off a PX roof on a Sunday, just good clean fun his Company Commander thought) to his daring prison escapes that records show never happened. Now the Filipino Wives and step daughters that change the ages and supposed career's of his brides every month or so. He's entertaining, but so full of lies that no rational person would believe anything he post's.

Yeah, he's getting to remind me of a real Abe Simpson aka Grandpa Simpson of the Simpsons.
And I've I've read on previous posts of his the "wifey saga" is getting long and convoluted.
From personal experience with someone I know local I know what that's a sign of.
