I'm keeping my eye on the .300 WSM, I have a 6.5X.284 "over the course" rifle built on a McMillian stock, Jewel trigger, tuned pre-64 Win action that the barrel is about tits up, the throat kind of looks like an alligators back though my 40X bore scope. It's barrel time soon and the .300 WSM is high on the list.
You know if you loaded the .300 WSM to hot .30-06 levels you would still have a very good long range rifle. The .30-06 case will run 190's right to 2850 with no problems at all and it's quite superior to to 175's in the .308, without the short barrel life of the .300 Win Mag.
