or BIG scope, FULL MOON, to reliably hit a fully exposed, stationary torso. In decent terrain (for fuel, foraging, shelter) there is no more available range, nearly any time, in daylight, either. Only an idiot will be in open country, in daylight, if it's shtf. Anyone with sense will only PASS THRU such country, at night, and NOT stay in such a dangerous situation. NOBODY can be watching all the time, 360 degrees, and there'll be MANY more riflemen wanting to shoot YOU, than you are going to see first, if you are stupid enough to be in such country, in daylight.

Sticking to either darkness or thick cover is a LOT smarter tactic, and so is having an autorifle with a can on it, than any manually operated gun, or any NOISY gun. In darkness or thick cover, a shorty 223 has PLENTY of "reach",given a scope, good ammo, trigger job, and a man who knows what's what.

Your knowledge of NV gear is exceptionally dated! On the LAV III, we call the Coyote, you call the Stryker, the NV is good at 10K and the ground radar can touch you at 40+ k. Just imagine what the gear on an average individual in the military is capable of. Time to do some research.

Even 3rd world countries have better gear than gumcrud --- at least they HAVE some. And they don't use 11in CARS either. His weapons, tactics, gear (whatever that is) and his thinking are terribly outdated. At least he is entertaining in a painful sort of way.

Is the entrtainment value similar to watching "Jackass"?. You know what is going on, are repulsed by it, but keep watching because You can't believe they just did that.

I don't know, but I'd pay to see GoonKid nail his scrotum to a telephone pole and get arrested.

Gee Tard, I routinely hit targets at 600+ yards at night, no moon with my NV set up. I use a spotter and a partner technique to do it but I'm about 85% out to 800 in anything short of a raging rainstorm.

BTW, Hardrock - I really like that technique, it is so simple - but the good ones usually are.

My list of somedays, now includes a good IR laser.

Hehe... simple always works best. Do yourself a favor, get one that isn't pen sized... you want a mountable one that you can put on a spotting scope or a tripod. it weighs a little bit but the advantage is instantly recognizable the moment you make the first score.

Mike - I'm looking real closely at a AN/PVS14-D - opinions? other suggestions?

Good choice Aslan. The PVS-14 is a very good unit and it's upgradable. I have a couple of reworked and upgraded PVS-7's that are awesome but they are bulky. The PVS-14 is small and can be adapted to a great many tasks. It is also adaptable to use with hi-power optics.

It's a bit on the pricey side though... ~$4k

The LAV III is another great Canadian produvt. US Army Stryker brigades are performing extremely well in Iraq.

Wonder what *****kid is going to do when he runs out of water and HAS to cross open ground at night to find some (without a map or compas or any idea where he is.)

He really does not understand what he talks about.
