If the US Gov had really wanted Eric R. Rudolph during the 90's all they had to do is cancel hunting season until he was found, or rolled on. The locals assisted with the E&E he was on, and the agents were for the most part uncomfortable in a forested enviroment. Rangers are not there to search fot You, they are there to protect the park, and inform of attractions think of the as tour guides in shorts, and brown rounds. They also collect the fees, and other revues involved. If you followed through with Your plans, your worst fears would come to pass, a group of scared and pissed off people would hunt you down and the law wouldn't be there to save you.
