230 gr .45 ball bullet, at 550 fps has MORE momentum, and 4x the frontal aread. Shoot some dogs with both, and I mean 5-6 with each, in the chest, so lucky flukes will be mostly ruled-out, and SEE which load rolls them, unable to get up, nearly always, and which one nearly always lets them run off howling! If Hatcher-Cooper were correct, the results would be reversed.
We CAN get a 55 gr bullet to 2200 fps,in a pocketable 356 TSW, and the 9mm bullet has 2x the frontal area of the Hornet, and the Split Nose bullet DOES reliably frag in flesh at that speed. So, yes, we DO get more shock and tissue destruction than we do with the 55 gr softpoint bullet in the Hornet. Velocity and energy transfer ARE where it's at, IF you use them in the most effective manner. Momentum just means recoil, and slower repeat hits.
