The SWPL, feeling that such would never be broken, retired the Leatheslap from their roster of matches. Bill French used a 6" barreled M10, "open front" holster, hand hover start position, and 1 armed point shooting to set this record, on a 12" plate at 7 yds. He tried this for 8 years straight, the one match per year, until he finally didn't MISS with one or more of his point shots. :) Prior to this LUCK run, he was ALWAYS beaten by 1911 users, going to eye level, using both hands.

With surrender start, REAL loads, and a SECURE holster, even tho it's a "speed rig", .80 sec is an EXTREMELY fast 5 try average, for such a mark at such a range. 1.0 second, at half the range, on a 10" mark, using real ccw gear and hands at surrender, is also a world champion level of performance. If you don't believe that, just ask some of the top hands. :)

The open front rigs are just "shelves", letting the gun fall on the ground, if you TWITCH your hip, much less take a step. If you "align" the rig with the target, have your hand "hover" just off of the butt of the rig, you can actually react,"draw", and hit the target FASTER than you can do the same thing, gun in HAND, (either at your side or in low ready, both hands on the gun)

The reason that the above is true lies in the facts of physics. Everything that has mass also has INERTIA. That inertia must be overcome before the object can be MOVED. Your MOVING hand overcomes the pistol's inertia FASTER than you can overcome BOTH the inertia of your stationary hand and arm, AND the inertia of the pistol.

The SWPL used real loads using the power meter to check shooter's loads before each match.

no they did not, not before Jeff set up the IPSC. That began the SAME year we set up IPSC, and the swpl guys had been using 200 gr .45 swc's, 3.5 grs of Bullseye, for 15 year by then (1976 we set up IPSC) Also, Weaver and others had been using wussy 38 loads for many years. Jeff said Weaver would draw, fire, reholster his K38, and FOLD HIS ARMS before the 38 bullet would hit a 160 yd steel silohuette. :) Just because Hard Rock, in the guise of "stillwater", LIED about something ELSE doesn't mean you have to SWALLOW it all, dumbass.
