KT's lowers have the buttstock hole already threaded, and both sides of the lower are "dimpled" where you have to drill the other holes. They are well worth the (double) cost of the Tannery Shop and other lowers. The buttstock hole is not CENTERED, nor is it STRAIGHT in the castings, so you have to make a holding jig for the lathe, use an indicator and 4 jaw chuck to bore that hole, and then thread it, or you risk having your stock on the lower crookedly. Then your buffer and spring will bind in the stock, and you CAN'T get away with "tweaking' cast aluminum, in order to straighten out the situation. Such a lower is just ruined, that's all.

Myself, I don't even mind buying over the counter. The sheer volume of gun sales in this country means that IF gun confiscation ever get's signed into law, they'll never have the man power to successfully do it.

The ATF can EASILY search any state's record of FFL holder's sales of auto rifles, and you'd have to be NUTS to risk the background check. EVERYBODY should have at LEAST one fighting rifle and fighting pistol that NOBODY knows that they have. There ARE ways to do this. One way is to spend the extra money for "next day" UPS delivery, any place you want, any name you want to give, looking like a Jamaican if you want.

Gunkid, if you've ever signed a 'yellow sheet' the ATF KNOW you have owned guns. In your case, being an ex-con with firearms violations, then you are on their number one shi*t list. It won't matter what you hid, they can and will fix your arse if they suspect you are doing something illegal.
