I gave up on the Escape bivvy. it's just too small and expensive, for what it is. The 2 person emergency bivvy is half the weight, twice the size, half the price, reflects more body heat and stops the wind and rain better. It's not breathable, but the inner bag made of Wally's absorbent painter's drop cloth deals with the condensation famously, and it also offers a bit of insulative effect, for $5 and half a lb or less. It's quite flammable, soaks up water like TP and is nearly as flimsy, but hey, what do you want for $5? Since I added the foil, it does a fine job. I got some Russian winter foot wraps to try out, but it wont be cold again before xmas. They offer the option of 4 different places on them to put the sole of your foot, so by the time you've used all 4, the first one has (probably) dried out. They are much easier to wash and dry out than socks and much lighter and less bulky than 4 pairs of socks, too. Given that the sleep and shelter gear can be worn as ponchos, the longjohns, like the one pair of wool socks, will be reserved for "sleep-only" use, so that they dont get perspired-in (much). I want to try out having a buttpack serve as the support for a day pack, putting the weight on my hips, so that I dont need a frame in the main pack. I've now used the trekking poles enough to know that they definitely belong in the BOB. Ditto the UCO candle lantern and beeswax candles.
