Best Branch of the Military....

A Soldier, a Sailor, an Airman, and a Marine, while walking along a busy boulevard, get into a discussion about which branch of the service was "THE BEST."

The argument became so heated that the four failed to notice an oncoming bus. They are run down and all are killed instantly. Soon thereafter they arrive at the Pearly Gates. They are met by St.Peter and are ushered into Heaven. Since they had not finished the debate about which of the Armed Forces was the best, they decide that St.Peter would be an unimpeachable source of truth and he would be the one to whom they shouold put that very question. So, they ask St.Peter which of the Armed Forces does Heaven consider unsurpassed. St. Peter ponders for a second or two and replies "I cannot answer that. However I will ask God the next time I see him. Meanwhile thank you all for your service to your country and welcome to Heaven."

Some time later the four servicemen see St.Peter and ask whether or not he found out from God which branch was the best. Just as they finish the question, the sound of celestial trumpets fills the air and a beautiful snow white dove alights upon St.Peter's shoulder. In the dove's beak is a piece of parchment glistening with gold dust. St. Peter opens the note and music from a thousand harps surrounds the awed servicemen. St. Peter reads the note aloud:

To: All Former Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, and Marines
From: The Almighty
Subject: The Best Military Service

1) All branches of the United States Armed Forces are highly proficient and honorable. 2) Each has served the People of the United States with courage and distinction. 3) Such service in any branch of the U.S. military warrants the highest respect and appreciation. 4. Always be proud of these facts.

God, U.S.Marine Corps (retired)
