Now that the AWB is dying I'm thinking about mods to my post ban AR15. One is a nice 1/9 barrel (16in) with bayo lug and and flash hider. Really like the carry handle model but the flat top model has advantages too.

Another is a really good adj shorty stock. I've read that the aluminum ones are better than the plastic ones.

This is one area that I don't have any experience in so your comments would be greatly welcomed. Please mention brand names. Price is a factor but I'm really scared that our window of opportunity will close shortly after it opens. Any else I should think of? Anything from Brownells catalog would be great.

Oh, my rifle is a Colt H-Bar 1/7 20in.

Thanks

I prefer the plastic collapsables. The aluminum ones rattle and make way too much noise. The Cavalry Arms stocks are well built. Colt nowadays has a rep for having some of the best quality furniture for the AR-15 on the market. The plactic they use is top notch.

prices are going to come down a lot on a lot of "preban" stuff, I bet. I've always favored the alloy buttstock, because it's less likely to break. with the release agent and Acraglass Gel, you can get rid of the "lost motion' in the stock. I favor doing so, not only for the noise issue, but for speed in hitting. The slop between upper and lower receiver, and the handguard needs to go, for the same reason. Ambi safety, luminous sights, and Rock River trigger job are essential mods, and I really like to v notch the top of the luminous rear wing of the peep sight, and add "ears" made out of Acraglass. This makes for a bit faster sight, for torsos inside 100 yds. It's also possible to precisely zero the .22 unit at 50m in this manner. Leave the "long range" wing zeroed at 175m, 223 sp's. Zero the scope at 250-300m, with 69 gr hpbt match stuff.

Luminmous sights are neat, I have a set of Trijicon's, but a 1x red dot style optic is the way to rock. It's probably the fastest sight to use both for hunting and a gunfight. That's why the US Army has just ordered another 75,000 of them.

Some of the plastic stocks are pretty durable. The US and Israeli militaries both use plastic stocks on their CAR-15 and M4 style rifles. The Israelis are not much for disposable gear, they use stuff long after others consider it obsolete (like the old M3 halftrack) and IDF conscripts are notoriously rough on gear.

What brand collapsible stock do the US and Israeli military use? Heck, what brand do you use. Personal choice is the best endorsement.

Thanks

Myself, I prefer Colt furniture (1st choice), CavArms and some others come in second.

The US Military uses Colt furniture on their M4's. The Israelis use a locally made model.

I like with a collapsable stock setup with a receiver end plate that has a sling attachment on it. This is where a sling attachment point is mounted where the stock recoil buffer tube joins the back of the lower receiver. This opens up improved ways to sling your primary weapon.

Tapco has an entire 3 position assembly with the short buffers and everything for $20, which is a bargain, but I have no idea what their quality is.

i don't think

the quality,is bad, per se? on the plastic[i wouldn't'butt- stroke'too many' people, with stock extended, though!

i "saw"one installed on an oly plinker about 6months ago[damnit, thats where my spanner wrench is at]

it looked/handled just like it's$1700 bushmaster cousin[minus birdcage on muzzle]

personally,i'm holding out for an aluminum slider, as weight is a mute point!

[bushmaster dissipator]

thanks.
