went out with the advent of the Nosler Partition, and the BAR. The African game laws wont LET hunters use autos, guys don't want to waste $15,000 on a double rifle, so they settle for a .458 bolt action, and HOPE that the extra power will do the job(as vs fast followup hits on the head). Just because THEY are limited by laws, does NOT make the .458 bolt OR the double rifle a better bet than a 308 autorifle. Nobody practices enough with double rifle ammo costs being what they are, 308 is 15c a shot for practice ammo. The recoil of 458 means you are twice as slow for a followup shot as you'd be with a 308 auto, especially with a BOSS compensator. The BAR is also available in 338 and 300 Win Mag. you aint GOT a "boy" to lug around your 15 lb double rifle, even if you do have such a rifle. Any of the above listed auto rifle calibers is a LOT more versatile than the 458 or the double rifle is, too, because of its far better performance against gravity and wind. I rate such rifles with shotguns, as pcs I'd never bother to own, or recommend to anyone, for any sort of serious use at all.

you posted there ANDY! although[for me] don't harbor the 'wants' of hunting africa in this lifetime anyway.

but the shot gun kinda lost me, as for the amount of fire power[blue whistlers]it can throw with the single pull of the trigger, picture a 28"SEMIAUTOwith the old 10 rd.extension[i got 1 stashed #2, mod 1100] loaded with #4buck/#oo mixed, and you bump 3 unfriendlys at 40yards all armed with uzi/ingram/mp5,ect,who would be putting out the most projo's down range in the first 3 seconds,granted ,you would be a handy wing shot,with the stated shot gun!

BS, .30 cal partitions don't penetrate anything like the big, heavy dangerous game loads.

Fact is, you NEED penetration on dangerous game. A medium bore, expanding bullet will not penetrate from many angles on true dangerous game. Those that got away with such both knew where to hit such game with light loads and used solid or FMJ ammo.

Yet again, you have no concept of what you are braying about.
