Blackpowder rifle definition?

3398 Views 10 Replies 7 Participants Last post by  Magnum88C
Is the definition I use for the description of this forum out of date? Don't those new black powder rifles load from a breech now? Sorry if I sound ignorant, but black powder just isn't my thing and I don't pay much attention to them. But I would like the forum description to be accurate.

Thanks.

Rich, those new rifles load from the muzzle and cap from the breech directly inline with the bore as opposed to the offset caplock or flintlock. Many shooters are now using Pyrodex substitute instead of true black powder. Also there are many breechloading rifles and revolvers using brass cartridges that are designed to shoot black powder.

Your Blackpowder Forum is generic and covers them all. I wouldn't change it.

RIKA
Agreed, what she said. If it shoots blackpowder (or substitute), it belongs here.
RIKA can do any thing better than MELVIN, anything ...

Man, on man, RIKA is so much better at this than MELVIN is, that it is funny. I know why MELVIN doesn't like RIKA:

1. MELVIN knows RIKA is more knowledgable about firearms than he is.

2. MELVIN knows RIKA is a better shot than he is.

3. MELVIN knows RIKA is a better gun handler than he is.

4. MELVIN knows RIKA will never give him a tumble.

You lose MELVIN, RIKA wins -- again, and again, and again.

I agree with Rika, black powder, these days, typically refers to anything other than nitrocellulose.

On an unrelated note:

Stillwater, I have nothing against you, nor do I want to start anything, but it seems like some of your posts exist solely to antagonize GK (or whatever). I'm only making this point because I have not seen him post anything in this particualr thread.
u catch-on slowly, but you DO eventually notice the reality of some things.
Rich, many of these "new" BP rifles are not actually new. The inline design was produced in small numbers beginning around 1847.

Breechloading BP's have been around even longer. Henry VIII had a BP breechloading rifle made for his own enjoyment. The British experimented with small numbers of Ferguson's breechloading BP rifle and used 350-400 of them in combat during the Revolutionary War.

So, lumping them all together in the BP forum seems appropriate.

You're no better. You do the same thing, but you're more open ended in the crap you say, like the doom-sayers on the street corner, not really directed at anyone or anything in particular.

If you want to believe your illusions, it doesn't bother me, but every so often I will respond, some times the urge to prove a blatantly obvious load of bs for what it is is overwhelming. But I'm not going to start poking you with a stick simply because you haven't said anything asinine, yet. It's irritating enough to come on here and see 100s of worthless threads, I don't need any more.

Though I have learned a great deal from those little arguments, it's now old, and redundant.

I take this back, you pick a lot of arguments with garand and aslan. Maybe more, I don't read most of your threads.
you can go to ANY active site, and see LOTS more worthless threads.I deal in INTERESTING, cutting edge stuff, guns, mods, practice, loads, etc. you are nothing more than a plinker, so such stuff doesn't interest you. You'd lose a fight inthe first 1 second, and you know it,and you'd rather trust to LUCK than WORKat improving. So no, I don't care what you think. You don't count,by your own apathy.

those pos's followed ME here, not the reverse. They contribute NOTHING but noise, and everyone can see that.

Not really, the posts showing where he's wrong are informative, however.
cutting edge stuff,
For the 1960's

guns, mods,
Most of which are illegal and/or dangerous

practice,
That he did 30 years ago

Which are dangerous/impossible (such as the magic .223 load where just the powder almost overflowed the .223 case).

Check some of the Join dates, some were here long before he was.
