Right.
Obviously,
My question was about Bofors NC1290, and which commercial powder is comparable.

Bofors NC 1290 Identification

Bofors NC 1290 is a smokeless nitrocellulose gun powder containing nitroglycerine and diphenylamine. It is manufactured in Sweeden by Bofors Explosives AB and imported by ATK/Alliant Powder.

It is also known as Alliant "Reloader 25", which is #106 on your Beartooth Bullets powder burning rate list. Please do not load this powder based on my findings without first verifying the info in this post, which I am 99.99% sure is correct. Better safe than sorry. For verificaton go to http://www.alliantpowder.com and search for Document number: 490 14 719 .

Hope this helps,

Please allow me to correct the above burn rates. The list that I use is at http://www.reloadbench.com and list 173 powders.

#35 Unique is slower than #29 Green Dot.

#28 700X and #29 Green Dot are almost the same speed.

#22 HP38 is faster than #26 W231.

#82 W680 is slower than #71 H110.

#130 H380 is slower than #123 H4320.

The following medium burning rifle powers are similar but are not almost the same speed. Fastest to slowest: #105 BLC-2, #117 Varget, #120 IMR4064, #129 RL-15.

#131 W760 is faster than #140 H4350.

#146 IMR4831 is faster than #156 H450.

#103 W748 is faster than #123 H4320.

After typing this, I realized that on most of the powders you simply inverted the burning rates; used faster for slower, and slower for faster, which is easy to do. I have done it myself.

powder burn rates what a convoluted subject. most powder burn rate are subjective. i've seen dupont do burn rate comparisons before and in person. when burn rates and pressures curves are done on a production scale which all powder burn rates are judged by. they are done in what is referred to as a bomb. it is a spherical burn chamber with all kinds of electronics attached to it. such as multiple heat and pressure sensors are attached. the burn rates are dependent on the particular bomb size and the way it's used. different manufactures use different units to do there testing. so the discrepancy or difference in burn rates that the reloader has to deal with. powder burn rates also vary from lot to lot of powder you buy. as an example i have a bit of imr 4895 and it falls in between imr 4320 and imr 4350 in its burn rate, where the published burn rate is that it's supposed to have a burn rate that is faster than imr 4320. but on the whole my chart is the most correct that i have been able to find over the years. this being said, it is to be used as a guide only, as it is subject to change as each manufacturing lot of powder changes. using any chart when reloading should be used as a guide only, you can obtain different burn rates for the same lot of powder just by using it in a different weapon of the same caliber, different temps, different relative humidity. the primer strike can cause your powder to have a different burn rate in the same weapon you've used it in for years. a week primer strike will cause the powder column to light differently than when it's given a good hard strike. so march on but be mind full of what youir doing and that the rules may change at any time.
