I am deeply saddens to say this will be my last post. I am very insulted at some remarks that where made .

That comment was taken out of context. I was referring to the post made by Gun Crazy Jr. The one where he was shaking in anger at the death of a rattlesnake. I found that hilarious.

You know, nowadays our society breeds a lot of dumb ass, illogical thinking. I can usually tell those who've never actually had to live in a rural area for prolonged periods from those who haven't. For example, you try gardening without killing the rattlesnakes you find and you're just asking to get bit.

FEW people who grow up in a rural environment who find a snake in their garden will try and risk getting bit to 'save' the snake. The Western Diamondback is aggressive and you cannot tell me they are not because I've watched them and dealt with them first hand for many years.

Its kind of funny to me that he implies that I haven’t lived in a Rural area for a prolonged time, is all 16 years of my life “prolonged”? do you not consider living 2 hours away from the nearest town RURAL? I have kept a few gardens, never found the need to kill a single snake……hmmmm……… so you asked about others being herpetologist, well currently I am not, in 10 or so years I plan to be!

Ps I was not shaking in anger about the death of a rattle snake, I was mad that you kill a animal with out reason! I HAVE KILLED A LOT OF ANIMALS, I HAVE THE OVER SIZED GUT TO PROVE IT.

I just don’t feel I want to post here any more, usably when this kind of stuff starts it doesn’t stop, :argue: and I don’t want to be the next……you know who….. So it was nice being here but im gone, PEACE

Dude, try letting us know what the issues are, give us a chance to address them, and then decide whether or not to leave.

Can't let one thread ruin it for you.

Gun_Crazy,

I will try to be gentle. Running away from things and people who disagree with you will never work. You must stand your ground and defend what you think is right. I am sorry to see you leave but you have made the choice that you think is right for you. I hope that you will rethink your position and learn that disagreement and even being insulted are a part of life. You must stand up for what you believe in and be proud of that stance. It will make you stronger.

I am sorry to see you go and wish you the best in life.

Its not that I dislike this forum but I have seen in the past with others and other issues that stuff like this never really drops. And on other forums I have stayed and continued to argue my points and it always get blown out of hand. And I want to prevent that from happening. I dint mean to insult any one really, just speak my mind. but I take a lot of offence and some one saying I don’t know what its like to live in rural arias. especially by some one who has never even seen me. I just feel VERY strongly about killing animals and waiting there meat. and I would like to stay as this is a informative and often funny forum. I just do not want to see this get out of hand. I guess I will think about it though.

I hope that you do. Its okay to be hurt but as we grow we learn not to let other people know that we are hurt. Things can get out of hand but that is a part of living. We learn how to manage it. I'm not too many years older than you and can tell you that this is one of the most valuable lessons a person can learn.

Gun crazy. You do that, give it a think. There's a lot to learn from many of the people here. Some people's views bother me, I usually just try to let it slip rather than get into too much of a pissing match. On the other hand, I've (usually inadvertantly) pissed people off too. It happens.

People are always going to disagree. That is the nature of human beings. What you need to do is to accept that someone else's opinions are just as important to them as they are to you. I am sure you saw my postings in that same thread that you refer to. No, I never expected to change the world with what I said, but I said it anyway. I don't expect everyone to always agree with my point of view, and certainly they have to expect that I will not always agree with theirs either. There is no harm in living that way.

But maybe somewhere along the way, both participants in a disagreement have learned to see things from another's point of view and are better for it regardless of what appeared on the surface. Sometimes ideas are more like seeds rather than revelations that changes a life. It takes a while for the seed to germinate and grow, and quite likely you will never see that result in another person that you have started. That's why you should never be shy about saying what you think or feel. You just never know what good may come out of it someday.

Hope you are sticking around. Us "snake lovers" need to stick together here. :)

I've managed to "sell" a CAR-15 or two in my 4 years on the Net, that I know of, and probably dozens more that I DONT know about. At any rate, I keep on pointing out the bs that others post, and try to give insight into why so many are so fos.

If gentle clarity was what you were trying for, you succeeded. Your grace is evident.

My response would be, first, that the folks here are strong, independent types - or they wouldn't frequent something called "armslocker" in the first place. Second, this is after all an internet talk board, and what's the old saying about "sticks and stones"? Third, each person has three choices when faced with a verbally combative situation: (1) stand still and quietly take it, (2) run from it, or (3) stand fast and meet it. It has been my personal experience that only (3) offers a positive possible outcome of the argument and positive effects on one's self esteem.

Best,
Jon

To be frank, I don't see what is the problem here. No not that someone may have insulted you andyou are sick of that stuff, I understand that all to readily - but what was the whole thing about the snakes. Was someone calling you foolish because you said not to kill a rattler but rather let it live? If that is the case then why not tell the person who said that why he/she should let rattlers live as opposed to killing them out of an overreactive fear response. Tell that person how it is that rattlers benefit us more by being alive than dead. Maybe this other person needs a good wake up call in the form of some valid information about rattlesnakes as opposed to hillbilly lore that he or she seems to be living by...

To do that would mean you have to stay here a while and enjoy this site some more. Sure it gets carried away with nastiness sometimes, but think of it this way - that will only toughen you up and some toughness is a good thing!

Best regards,
Glenn B

I have killed them and eaten them to, but to kill one because you find it in a garden (if I got that right) is ridiculous. Check out the internet to search for the problem that took place in Viet Nam when they wwiped out the snakes. The country was overun with rodents and they lost the entire rice crop.

More people are bitten by rattlers in the USA when they in some way molest, try to handle or try to kill the snake - than at any other time. Keep on killing them and my bet is I will be reading your obituary rather than you killing one in my memory. There is an axiom that always proves true. If you handle venomus snakes it is not a matter of if you will be bitten but when you will be bitten. Someday maybe even that very dead one that you pick up as your trophy may bite you - very possible even with a snake dead for over an hour. Snakes are better left alone, or leftto the experts such as animal control people. Removing them from your property would be the better thing to do rather than killing them, but if you feel at home with rodents - just keep killing the snakes.

There are 70 species of snake in Arizona, but only 11 of them are rattlesnakes.

You kill the rattlesnakes in your area you still have other snakes. There are many varieties of non-lethal snakes.

Besides, one of the methods I used to keep the rattlesnakes away from my dwelling after the Great Snake Massacre (tm) was to keep their food wiped out.

This was easily accomplished by keeping a large pack of cats. These guys are great, Murder Inc. with furry paws. They keep the place scoured of rodents and snakes. As a treat, I'll also put out bird seed at ground level to attract snacks for them. :)
