Is a silencer/suppressor/can required to survive if the balloon ever goes up?? People survived conflicts before they were invented! I admit that it does have its uses depending on circumstances. Personally for me its not a mandatory item. Gunkid uses it as a crutch, plain and simple. Without his crutch he would have to leave his fantasy world and practice fieldcraft, land navigation, marksmanship skills and give thought to intelligent planning. I guess he's too inept to do all that and prefers to use a crutch at all times. At least till he breaks his crutch, then what will he do?? Comments

Actually, I have given this a little thought. Suppressed weapons have certain advantages in certain situations. They can be useful.

I won't be relying on one for shtf.

But, as you have said, people have survived without them, my planning and skills are not dependant on having to have any particular set of tools. If I am stuck with a weapon other than my chosen primary one, then I will adjust. Any gun, when used properly is a valuable tool.

Now, as far as GK goes, his reasoning, given his situation isn't that bad. He realizes he has an issue with flinching. (he has admitted this in the past on other boards. I don't bring this up to put him down, actually in this case, just the opposite.)

Because he is at least smart enbough to understand this is a problem, he has come up with a solution.

We can argue whether or not its the best solution. We can argue over whether or not it is a smart long term strategy. Those are separate issues.

The point is, he has actually done something we all have accused him of not doing. He actually has chosen some gear for a legitimate reason. He has picked gear that will enhance his ability to survive.

That's the right thing to do.

He blows it by trying to ram it down everyone's throat, and by trying to make it out that everyone flinches.

We can also argue that what he claims he's going to do with it is stupid, but again, we're now talking tactics.

We can rightly, point out that the weapon he's putting the can on with it's too short a barrel is not a good choice, but that's still somewhat subjective.

It's all a part of what works for one may not work for someone else. If GK would only realize this and not be so hostile to other ideas, things would be much better.

Ps, GK you're still not going to get a Christmas Card this year either.

I agree that while the suppressor can't make a person invisible (like GK thinks it can), it does have very valuable tactical uses. A "can", actually two, are on my list. Think I would copy John in AR's thinking and get a quick detatch one for the AR and an integral one for the Mark II. Anyone with a better idea, please comment.

With regard to GK's kit, I agree that he has thought it out carefully but his selections are based on his fantasy of living off the land, killing other people for their kit and stealing food from farmers. Minimal to the point of being silly. Living as a nomad - on foot - and sleeping in spider holes is the quick route to death.

Finally, to quote Aslan "It's all a part of what works for one may not work for someone else. If GK would only realize this and not be so hostile to other ideas, things would be much better."

If GK would just act like a civil human being, I would certainly respond in the same manner.

I'll agree in that he's thought it out far enough to compensate (no pun intended) for some inadequacies, but that's as far as I'll go. Problem is, he picks a weapon (no doubt because of it's low recoil) that absolutely, positively REQUIRES as much velocity as it can get to have decent terminal ballistics, and then does everything he can to reduce the velocity of the projectile. Most of his other gun choices are the cheapest POSes that can be found, and will suffer being hacked on the least. So, while he's chosen general items he thinks he'll need (good), he's done little thinking/researching on what actually works and would have a much lower probability of failing on him (bad). So, he's got some thinking to do.

Now, if he were to act human, I do believe that most would be willing to help him improve his choices with his chosen criteria. Then maybe some help with tactics and actually surviving, in which guns will play a relatively small role.

C'mon GK, get the hint.

Suppressors are a tool that as said above are useful. BUT, you can't half ass it with them. It's like buying a cheap scope that let's moisture in. With suppressors, you get what you pay for.

One point to bring up is that even though you may have a suppressor, you need to know how and when to use it. You just can't pick up a suppressed firearm and think that you're safe from being heard. It doesn't work that way.

The trick is that you need to know how sound reflects and how much off of what kind of objects. That is one of the reasons I know Tard is full of crap. He has never been able to correctly explain how he intends to overcome this problem.

Another thing about suppressed firearms is that supersonic bullets leave a nice sonic crack and no matter what caliber you are shooting, impact noise is considerable.

Just to be clear, I was only commenting on him making the suppressor part of his kit.

the type of suppressor, the quality of his gear, tatics described, etc. are all separate issues, each worthy of scrutiny on their own.

I just realized that he is at least smart enough to try and overcome a limitation.

I pretty much agree with all the other comments made in this thread so far...

sure they have, by pure LUCK. I dont

WANT to depend upon LUCK, as you dummies do. Spray a million cockroaches with ANY poison, SOME survive. So what? I'm not content with having SOME of my species survive. most likely, a lot of them will BE cockroaches like garnad, since there's so MANY of such.

if u CAN choose when to fire, stupe, u

can ALSO use the subsonic .22's and the .22 unit. See, dummy, the diff between u and me is I KNOW to AVOID trouble. You are stupid enough to THINK that you want to go LOOK for it. That is how I know that you are fos. When HAVE to use the 223, the sonic crack is a non-issue. Just look at all the fools who THINK that it doesn't MATTER if everyone within 2 miles hears EVERY shot that they fire. :) Sonic crack isn't audible at 1/4 mile from the source, at right angles to the line of fire, on open, flat terrain, HALF that in wooded hills. Having HEARD sonic crack, and being able to LOCATE the firer are VERY different things. While you run around TRYING, you are getting SHOT(quietly) That will QUICKLY put the kabosh on THAT ignorant bs.

But you're the only one who has claimed they are going to initiate ambushes (looking for trouble), kill sentries (looking for trouble), come to the sound of gunfire (looking for trouble)

We've never claimed anything of the kind.

You, mr gunkid, are the one who has the thousands of posts claiming such.

show us where we said we would be looking for trouble?

Also show us one post where we claim we will be standing around in the open like you often claim.

You need to go back and read your posts and then comment on who is fos because they will be looking for trouble.

Maybe you should check with Andy on this.

I like the idea of maintaining as low a profile as possible; I have no "Mad-Max-wanna-be" aspirations. A suppressor should definitely be helpful in "lowering your profile", but it's certainly not a cure-all or a replacement for skills or brains. As several have said here, it's a tool; and with any tool comes the potential for dependency. (I've had neighbors unable to open a can of food during the aftermath of an ice storm, simply because they were dependent on an electric can opener. They had no manual can-opener, so their dependence on that one vulnerable "link in the chain", so to speak, left them high and dry.)

I really like the CAR with the suppressor, but have used AR's and CAR's since 1981 without one, so if the "can" were to become lost or destroyed, I'm only back to where I was before anyway.

My enjoyment of the suppressor isn't primarily from a shtf-prep mindset; it's really just "fun", combined with (hopefully) being able to pick off multiple small critters without scaring off everything at the first shot. We'll find out for certain this fall, during squirrel and rabbit season.

If I were Special Forces or SWAT, (or a contract killer, I suppose), I'd certainly want a suppressor or two. But having a suppressor or two doesn't make me believe that that's what I am. Like any tool, it allows more options, but it doesn't endow me with any super powers. (Dangit... :( )

Maybe its me, but I get the impression that gunkid has feelings of inadequacy when he compares his accomplishments to mine in life. I hope its not something I've said.

Garand, GK has feelings of inadequacy toward everyone here including me. As I said before, I think that he likes to attack you because you are a gentleman not likely to respond harshly to his name calling and other words. Don't get me wrong, I think that this is a strength, not a weakness - a good trait . I myself am usually pretty quiet and easy going but I have a hot temper when I or a friend is attacked. This is not good cuz sometimes I get into trouble but I am trying to do better though sometimes it is hard. Actually, a hot temper is something expected (or at least tolerated) in a man so I'm not faulting any of the rest of you guys here. A woman with a hot temper is usually regarded as undesirable.

I think most of us had the right intentions. We might have kicked him intio the corner a few times, but the tempers didn't come out and the gloves didn't come off until the incidents with our other adopted 'sister'. . .BTW have ya heard from her? How's she doing?

Yes, the Star of the show is back. Hope she will join us when she recovers from her cold.

such anger and non-sense.

for someone that knows how to avoid trouble, you've spent quite a lot of time in prison for it. How'd that avoidance thing work out for you?

who in any of these posts is claiming to go looking for trouble? The only person making such idiotic claims is you...
