but where I hunted, I wasn't supposed to be hunting, and I always wanted to have more range than the shotgun had. Mostly small stuff, readily taken with a standard velocity 22 short in the 24" barrel of my super-accurate M67 Winchester. That thing had no trouble at all grouping 1" at 50 yds, with high speeds and irons sights, from simple rests, like a rolled up jacket and prone. Even a bird on a swaying limb at 50 yds, me standing unsupported, had ZERO chance, if he gave me two shots. 90+% bought it on the first shot, if no wind. I experimented with hollowpointing even Shorts with a pocketknife tip, and the difference in performance was DRAMATIC.
