The last 2 years for shotgun competition I've been using a system from Blackhawk Industries, the BlackHawk Pro Forearm Shotshell Holder Black

This forearm holder was designed by Team BlackHawk for quick and efficient reloads of their shotguns. Holds eight (8) shotshells in 1" elastic retainers. Three (3) hook & loop secured elastic straps let you position the holder right where you need for comfort and speed. Wt: 4 oz.
SKU: 80FS00BK
Size:
Price: $19.95

Its a great piece of kit, very handy to use.

It fits on the wrist. Neat! Bet its very fast to access. In the field, I use a surplus GI gas mask bag and drop the empties in - feel for the loaded ones but not in that much of a hurry.

What kind of shotgun competition do you do, Garand.

Blade-tech makes two round polymer holders that fit on your belt. Add three of those and a Tac-star side saddle and any other ammo can be carried in a US army shotgun pouch. That is the method I use. Gives me 15 plus rounds for immediate use.

Garand, that thing actually looks kind of cool.

When you're fighting with a shotgun, keep an ordinary loop style ammo belt or two around your lower abdomen, above where your regular belt normally rides.

This keeps the shells out of the way of any other gear and they can be carried well regardless of how you're dressed, like say, with just a t-shirt and a pair of shorts. You can also often conceil the ammo this way, keeping it out of sight but ready to access.

Most of all though, it allows you rapid and easy access to your ammo, and this is one of the best ways to have your ammo if you go prone. As you use the ammo the belt is simply rotated around to get to more shells.

Aah the joys of being well dressed with lots of pockets for shotgun shells....

Actually I like the design of the item you posted about. I may have to look into it and see if my department will order some of them.

Thanks for a good thread.

best regards,

My favorites are the forearm shotshell holder and the side saddle on my mossberg. The ammo is virually at the loading gate. One of the nice things about using the Winchester 97's if you check out books like "Cowboy Action Shooting" by Hunter Scott Anderson, they show you 6 different methods of speedloading the 97. I like the 97, its durable, proven in combat from Poncho Via(Sp) days to Vietnam. Thats a good track record. It hasn't got all those safety devices that manufactures put on these days. An then there is that little thing about holding the trigger back and pumping until the gun is empty. :p :p :p

The only thing thats would worry me about the forearm thingy are (1) will I be wearing it when I need the shotgun, and if not, (2) how much time am I going to alot to donning it - again during the time I need the shotgun itself!

Mine has a 6-round sidesaddle (All rounds rim up, but the way!), an elastic sleeve on the buttstock, and a 6-round magazine tube. Man, if that ain't enough, I'm gonna be in a fix! (Yes, there is extra ammo in the bedroom where the shotgun lives).

Best,
Jon

I like the idea of the wrist bandolier for competition. I have seen them beore, but it's good to know it actually works. I've been getting by with a sidesaddle and stuffed pockets, but will definately put that item on my "to-get" list.

I love it. I'll be using it again in 2 matches in September.
