Well, went to Maryland's first Blackpowder Championship CAS shoot last weekend. Had one hell of a good time. All loads were required to be loaded with BP or an equivalent substitute. I only use real BP. Shot my 1860 Colt Army repros, my homemade Winchester 1873, and my original Winchester 1887 10 gauge shotgun. Only had one malfunction. It rained lightly about half the day and apparently a raindrop fell into one of the caps just prior to loading and it wouldn't fire, other than that everything went well. The rain and still air made the smoke just hang and shooting was a challenge. After about 3-4 rounds you can't see anything downrange. You could tell the new BP shooters as they were doing the "BP dance", where you squat or lean trying to look around the smoke to see your targets. There ain't nothing like 55 people shooting Blackpowder loads all day.
