On most vBulletin systems, the default for the index key is 4 characters. They claim this is a good balance between useability as well as keeping the size of the index database smaller. But I thought 3 characters might be more reasonable for a gun related site, since certainly eventually people will be searching on gun acronyms (BMG), calibers (.50), and other topics (ATF) most likely only 3 characters long.
As such, I have made this change and reindexed the database to utilize the 3 character search field. Hopefully this will prove useful in the future.
