Looking for a new deer/ hog rifle, been told to use a 6.5 creedmoor, but have heard better things about the 6.5 PRC. Anyone have opinions on either of these?

Sorry, no experience with either. How big are the deer in your area? IMO, even a well-loaded 223 is okay for hog, but may or may not be ideal (or even legal) for deer, depending on where you are.

Down here in Texas, the deer can be pretty big. Hogs are massive here too

I've got too much invested in 6.5x55 mm Swede to go into another 6.5 at this time.

Creedmoor has been established for awhile.
PRC is newer but again an accurate round according to accounts

Again no experience with either here. Later when things hopefully calm down I'll be building a 6.5 Creedmoor upper for my AR-10.Not gonna do it now however.

If you’re looking for a bolt action, I’d throw the 27 Nosler and the 6.8 Western (based on WSM) into the mix for consideration.

I’ve thought about the creedmore, but I’d end up with a full AR built for it, instead of just an upper.

Every time I’ve bought an upper, I end up buying a lower to dedicate to it later on. Same thing with lowers…
