to make a big pump drill. Once you have charred material, ashed tinder and a nest of thin strips of duct tape, making friction fire is easy 30 seconds or less from the time I start moving the handles until I've got a coal. Dump the coal onto the ashed tinder, blow on it and it will ignite the duct tape, no problem. The tape nest burns plenty long enough to ignite either a featherstick or a little "cigar-roll" of duct tape. If the rest of your wood is wet, the tape is a big help at igniting sticks, if you dont have time, tools or wood to make an alternative Swedish torch. Once you get the Swede burning, you can ignite any wood, no matter how wet or green.
