and nobody in the gym even bothers with a mask! What a crock. I'm teaching an older guy TKD, Hes' about the weakest, most awkward guy you can imagine. It's taken me two months to get him doing what young guys can do in a week. he comes to class at least 6 hours a week, tho, so he'll get there, if he sticks it out. He looks at the ground constantly and I smack the top of his forehead with a little palm push thing. It's breaking him of the habit, but it's slow.

You may need to find a different location to train (both for yourself and this older gentleman that you are working with). I keep a gym membership (because they're not mask fetishist types) but more often than not I train from my place (this morning's ritual abuse was warming up with bridging and planking drills, burpees, stretching,a four mile hill run and some work with a 53 pound kettlebell...I LIKE having the gym as a " foul weather option", and I like the eye candy provided by some of the women there. But I do like retaining the ability to just do my" modern primitive/evolved caveman" thing and just power through with no distractions.
Foul weather, alternative cardio options and heavier iron are the gym's selling points for me. But being able to" do it myself if I have to,and do it anywhere" is a point in favor of not doing it exclusively in the gym.
You working this guy on stamina/conditioning?

for now we're training in the living room of my apt, but eventually we'll need more space,a and he needs small and large bags to strike. We are to have a house with a garage later this year and a big back yard, so by the time he really needs those things, we'll have them.

I want him to get advanced enough to show off what I can train people to do, and then get a bunch of the college kids signed up. Sparring with them will force me to get really tuned-up again. Already, I'm doing stuff that I had not practiced in decades.
