of shot, 1200 fps. Black powder just doesn't amount to much. :) Annie Oakley's 12 ga M97, had no more shot or velocity, much less the effectiveness of today's 20 ga,using "power piston' wad-collar, "hardened" pellets, pie crimp and better barrels and chokes. since those old 10ga's and 12 ga's sufficed, the 20 ga suffices also. The 3/4 oz skeet load, in a 20 ga gas op auto, with a good recoil pad,if the stock is short enough to fit them, is a SUPERB way to introduce kids and women into the shooting sports. just lock a "tied down" portable claybird thrower to launch "straightaway floaters", so they can hit them easily, and the new shootists will be hooked on the sport in short order. However,if you beat the crap out of them with a pump or double 12, no recoil pad, they will just cuss you and quit.

Some former U.S. special operations folks have postulated that the 20ga is a better choice than the 12ga due to it's softer recoil and larger quantity of ammo per pound carried.

I have a friend who shoots a 10 gauge for CAS. If you would like top stand in front of the muzzle, we could verify its effectiveness. I'll bet you $5000.00 to you $500.00 that your to scared to take me up on the bet!
