I have gotten a lot of questions about this feature, so this is right from the horse's mouth:

Use 'dot' icons?
When this feature is enabled, a logged in user will see a "dot" (or whatever graphic you choose) on the folder icons (hot folders, new folders, etc) next to the threads that they have participated in.

What this means is that if you have posted any message within a thread, this is a marker letting you know that you have participated in that thread. Just a quick way of seeing exactly which threads you have made replies to.

Now what is needed is a way to select a user and have a marker show up to display every thread THAT person has participated in.
