Not sure if this is new news or not. Did anyone hear about the Bushmaster .308? An AR in A2 or A3 configuration, 16" or 20" barrels and the best part -- they use FAL magazines! Yep, that's right, those cheap, widely available FAL magazines, will use either inch or metric pattern magazines.

An AR15 type 308 is really interesting. If I didn't have a M1A I would be very interested. Will check out their website.

Grrrrr! You had to tempt me, didn't you? :D

I have an original Armalite AR10. I love it! Almost no real recoil and the only thing you have to be careful about is the charging handle sorta flies back and forth in the carry handle, so you do have to pay attention, no? :p

1911sr:

I heard that the original AR-10 magazines were a bit flimsy and you had to really watch them or they'd get trashed. I believe the new AR-10s use M1A mags, but then you're talking $70 a pop. . .Also heard the original AR-10 are less than reliable. Any of those assertions true to your knowledge?

I don't know if its true, Mag. I've never had one single problem with mine, and the magazines don't seem to be flimsy at all. Maybe they were talking about the later ones made in Europe right after Armalite stopped, no? They were a strange yellowish color stock and foregrip with plastic magazines.
