in which to respond. I've been attacked, or an ATTEMPT was made to attack me, MANY times now, and in NO case did I have more than about 1.5 seconds in which to have SKILL determine the outcome, rather than LUCK, and several times, if I hadn't responded in less than 1 second FLAT, I'd have had to shoot somebody. Instead, I got the gun 'on" them, and they stopped, and I went on my way unmolested. several times, I reacted and busted their chops in .5 second, too. At typical, sudden unarmed attack, (or sneak approach with knife) you wont have time to draw a ccw'd gun, regardless of WHO you are, unless you have your hand ON a pocket gun. Even then, you are VERY likely to need FAST footwork, blocks, etc, in order to get the gun out and "on" the guy, before he tackles u and you end up wrassling for control of YOUR gun.
