remember being told, when it was over $3 a gallon, that fully half of the cost of the gas was taxes? obviously a lie, since no taxes have been repealed! Also, supposedly 1/ 4 of the cost was for refining it. if so, why does fracking lead to it being so much cheaper? The Arab's charge for a barrel has gone WAY down, leading to very low prices at the pump. Nothing can have been reduced in the cost of refining! This is the equivalent of 40c per gallon due to inflation, in 1985, which makes gas a BARGAIN. It can't last, but it surely is nice for now! :) gas went over $1 per gallon in 1973, and over $1.80 per gallon in 2000. So, current prices are amazingly low. Just goes to show you how much the Arabs were GOUGING us for the past 40 years.

The price point per gallon almost qualifies as a relic from a bygone era.
