smithing, handgun hunting and a general defensive book. He as using a M39, altered to use a shortened 38 super case, to get 90 gr jhp's to 1600 fps. He worked a lot with Lee Jurras of SuperVel. Lee claimed to favor a 4" m29 .44 mag for ccw, with 180 gr super vels at 1500 fps.k Shows how realistic he was. he chose this cause he was more concerned with taking big game than with defense. Frankly, I bet he never ccwed such a gun at ALL. it's ridiculous.
as to Nonte's gun and load, why not just have a spare barrel chambered for the shortened Super case, and turn off the semi rims of a few cases in a lathe or drill chuck, rather than alter the breechface, extractor and ejector? Practice with the 9mm barrel, of course. You don't have to practice with the exact load that you carry. that's bs. you DO of course have to run 150 rds of similar loads and 50 rds of the carry load thru the autos, to test for functioning, but then you can practice with whatever you want. You'll never see any difference in combat, arising from the diff in practice and carry ammo POI since most shots with a handgun miss the ENTIRE man at 7 yds.
So, as much as 10" of difference in POI at 25 yds aint gonna matter any. zero the gun with the carry ammo and just accept the diff in poi for practice, since all of your practice should be done at 10 yds and less with the great majority of it being done at 10 FEET and less, at extreme speed.
