even a 10" 223 has more power left at 200 yds, with the WUSSIEST 223 FACTORY ammo, than the 22 mag rifle has at the MUZZLE, and with proper handloads, it has the same level of power at 300m, too. The 22 mag rimfire relates to the 223 like the 38 Special relates to the 357 Maximum. 1/4 as much power.

22 rimfire mag,out of a long rifle barrel, is 40 grs at 1900 fps, a bit over 300 ft lbs. The typical 22 magrf bullet is pretty blunt, slows down to below reliable expansion of that tiny hp(in flesh) within 100m or so of travel. It has LESS power than a properly loaded, SHORT barreled 9x19 pistol, so WHY does anyone "think" it amounts to a rat's ass as a manstopper, or deer taker? It doesn't. Yes, you can MAKE it work, but why bother? Anything it can do, the SHORTY 223 can do, at TWICE the range, with the OPTION of a .22lr conversion, and subsonic lr's. The 22 win mag has ZERO subsonic loads, and its sonic crack is JUST as loud as is the sonic crack of the 223 (both rds fired thru a good suppressor).
