making each move a theoretical response to a surprise attack. When we were to free spar, we were to go from the bow, to an INSTANT guard-position(and onto the fighting)at the command to "fight". Not to stupidly, slowly assume a fighting stance, but as a CONDITIONED REFLEX to a perceived emergency. That simple diff in training has made ALL the difference for me in real life.
When I first came home from Korea, I couldnt even play basketball. All the fast moves (in my peripheral vision) kept screwing up my game, cause I'd keep (at least PARTIALLY) dropping into guard-position, raising hands, etc.
