POSSESSION will be history, and s WILL htf. While we can't RISK having shrub as a lame duck, we also dont dare have a Demo-controled Congress AND an antigun prick like Kerry.

Either which way it's going to happen. With Bush it'll just be a bit slower because he uses a slightly different domestic support base, but they are both globalists.

If one looks at the big picture, the overall policies and long term direction that Bush in leading the country into is not fundementally different than Bill Clinton, except that GW has been more successfull at implementing those same policies and passing the legislation. Same poison, but it's a different flavor so people are more willing to drink it.

I don't think the Dems have the momentum to take both the legislature and the White House. If they do, yeah, there will be an AWB2 that will be sweeping in nature.

Passing a law and implementing it will be two entirely different things. What will be sweeping is the Democrats out of office next election.

Damned if we do; damned if we don't. Frustration level is high.

That's the way politics works. You don't have to be a good candidate for public office, only slightly not as bad as the opponent.

We are seldom voting FOR anyone, but are instead voting AGAINST the other guy.

With the size of this country and the number of people in the population, WHY is it so tough to get decent people into public office? People who we would be proud to have there?

Because power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely.

...and, as 223 Fan says, honest people that are willing to take the job are RARE and they end up having to play the same game to getanything at all done in that sewer called Washington.

Once upon a time what became known as the "District of Columbia" was a malarious swamp filled with snakes, lizards, and skunks. Somethings never change, I believe that the best persons for the job do not want the positions. No one in DC is free of unpaid baggage, favors, or strings. The Tom Clancy novels presented a fairly interesting proposal of replacing both houses, and most cabinet posisitions. The main charecter wanted people with dirty hand, who actually made something grow, work, or run better. He did not any lawyers, political hacks, or ass kissers, as they did not help out in any fasion. Sorry about this, will stop ranting now. I still believe that the clowns inside the beltway realize that they only serve at our sufferance, and no further.
