well, the toothpicks aren't capable of
ANY harm, and the .32's most certainly are lethal, albeit, not stoppers. I once knew a man with a hole in his temple, with just skin over that area., He'd tried to commit suicide with a .32 PPK, and the surgeon removed the bullet with the bone frags.
A really doped up, drunk, desperate,or enraged man can be every bit as hard to stop as is a 200 lb deer, hog, or bear. Since most of us know that neither 12 ga slugs nor 308 Softpoints to the chest are all that likely to result in instant stops on such critters, why have much faith in something like .45 ball, hmm? shoot a deer with .45 ball, and you are likely to have to chase him across an entire county.
See, men who AREN'T dopey, drunk, desperate or enraged, don't make you shoot them in the first place. They KNOW that they will likely die of an infection if they don't get medical aid, and they also know that all medical personnel must, by law, report all gunshot wounds. so if they get shot, they are going to prison, for whatever they did to make you shoot them.
However, 1-2 fast hits in the CHEST, even with a "mere" .22, will suffice to stop 50% of all who are not just "bluffed" at the sight of your gun. Since 80% WILL stop at just the sight of your gun, that means that a .22 will suffice, 9 out of 10 times. With real skill and "coldness", a .22 can be made to suffice, 95% of the time, by taking head shots, too. Even a .44 mag only approaches 98% stopping reliability, because about 1 guy in 50 (of those who DO get shot) is not stopped by even a 12 ga slug) So you pay a HELLUVA lot, using centerfire pistol, to not get very much of an increase over your "ability" with the .22.
