...sleep easily and it's 40F on a pair of trash bags. I made the base of the lean to about 6" too wide to match the width of the compressed debris in the 55 gal drum liners.

...2.5 ft high at the foot end. 6"less if on the drumliuners'debr8s bags instead of the raised bed.
Disposable bags, random debris found in the woods, etc, can be handy in a pinch; if nothing else is available. But to quote you to your own words back to you:

...having less than the BEST gear is just plain stupid. Settle for half assed if you want to, but it's stupid to do so.
u wanna settle for less than the BEST gear and skills, go ahead, it's a reflection of your STUPIDITY.
...when I see guys compromising on gear, I KNOW that they have ALSO compromised on training and practice. Having the best gear is the CHEAP, EASY part of having ability.
So which is it? Is it stupid to try to take the cheap way out? Because you say that it is, and you also say that it's what you personally do.

Between Melvin's general internet disposition and "trash talk" as far as living arrangements I keep getting reminded of this guy:

Speaking about our in house survival "specialist" I'm wondering how he and his Mrs are getting through covid?

That's a good question. He's been fairly infrequent here lately. I hope he didn't get the original or the C-19 D strain. Or worse yet an adverse reaction to one of the shots.
Last week a former classmate died of kidney and liver failure. I've not heard any details kind of makes me wonder.
