Lugers are very interesting and are great fun to shoot. I have two, one an Old Model DWM 7.65mm American Eagle model that belonged to my grandfather and a New Model 9mm DWM German army WW1 issue pistol which came with an ERMA .22 conversion kit.

Lugers are like Colt Single Actions, everybody who sees one just has to pick it up and examine it. I'm lucky enough to have two, one a 1936 Mauser made S/42 and the other a 1917 DWM Artillery with an original board stock not matched to the gun. Certainly not for the IPSC games but worth having for their history value and beauty of the design and machining. Both Lugers are extremely accurate and I may try the Artillery model with stock at 100 and 200 yds. Mine are not for sale.

There used to be a couple of old guys who were guaranteed to have tables full of Lugers (& broomhandle Mausers) @ the local gun show.I always put off buying either.I could buy two Smiths for one Luger 'ya know? Now,there all gone....

The last two shows there have been more Spencer rifles than Lugers.

I hope you(both) enjoy yours.(wanta write me into your wills?:))

When I was a young infanteer, i used to go out Friday afternoons (Sports afternoon :) ) and shoot pistol with my Company Sgt Major. He had a couple of Lugers, but I was never able to get any decent accuracy out of the guns. It wasn't the handguns fault, it was the shooters. I just never found them comfortable to shoot. Haven't tried since.

You had a Company Grade Sergeant Major? I don't know the rank structure
in the Canadian Army, but I would like to, if you would take the time to share it. In the U.S. Army, It's Private E-1, Private E-2, Private First Class E-3, Specialist 4 or Corporal E-4, Sergeant or Specialist 5 E-5, Staff Sergeant E-6, Sergeant First Class E-7, Master Sergeant or First Sergeant E-8. The first Sergeant is the top Non-Commisioned Officer at the Company level. All Sergeant Majors , E-9, are at Battalion level or higher. There are Command Sergeant Majors that are usually at Brigade or Division level. They make about what Brigadier Generals do. They have much more authority than a commissioned Major does. It's a really bad thing to get them angry at you. I shot my mouth off about one once, thinking he was out of hearing range. I was wrong, he heard me and 10 day's later I was on orders for the Infantry in Viet Nam. Oh. the sins of our youth.

YA aint missing anything. Plink 6-7x as much with a good .22, and count yourself lucky not to have wasted your time and money on a luger.
When have you ever fired a Luger?
