Man with Knife

We played out this little scenario with me using a "Red Gun" and my assailant using a "red knife" from twenty one feet, gun holstered, but me being in FI stance. I could block and shoot him once, but I got "Cut" every time. We switched rolles and I cut HIM every time but I would have been a dead puppy. From six feet, with a holstered pistol, you can be very seriously killed.

if he can touch you from 21 feet, you are both slow and ignorant. What is keeping you from backing UP in the 2 full seconds it takes him to charge 21 ft, from a standing start, hmm? NOTHING, that's what. Anyone who is any good at all can react, make accw draw, and hit chest at arm'slength in 1 second flat. Nobody covers 15 ft in 1 second flat, from a standing start. If you are slow, the guy doesn't have to start from a mere 6 ft away.

Also, just because you have a gun does NOT mean that you can't KICK, drop back supine, charge HIM, TACKLE HIM, etc. Such a lame response to a dynamic attack is what is to be expected of lames like Feds, tho. :)
I once had a guy claim he could reach me from 30 ft,

and hit me on the arm with a rolled up newspaper before I could make a ccw belt draw and drysnap at him. I bet him he couldn't do so from 20 ft, if I had the 1911 chamber empty. Bet was $20. He charged, I jumped backwards as I drew, backpedaled as I cycled the slide, and had a Weaver on him before he ever got within 10 ft of me. He wasn't particularly fit, I was. I'd removed the firing pin and stop from the gun, for the obvious reasons.

I then bet him double or nothing that he couldn't do so from 10 ft, cocked and locked, and he lost THAT, too. I then bet him double or nothing that he couldn't do it from 6 ft,if I didn't back up at ALL. He was REAL eager about that one, but my front snap kick to his chest "bought" me time enough to get the muzzle onto him and dryfire before he could recover and hit me with the magazine. :) I "focused" the kick, so as to not hurt him much. He learned a VERY vital lesson, very cheaply, really. That kick could easily have been to solar plexus, hard enough to detach his diaphram, or to nut sack, hard enough to require surgical removal of testicles. COUNTING upon the weapon to makeup for one's stupidity, lack of fitness, lack of adequate training, etc,is just asinine.

Yes, John all us Feds are lame. But we took YOU down three times. My compadres didn't even break a sweat. How much ACTUAL combat have you participated in? Please give circumstances and dates. I say again, a standing man will cut you from 21 feet if he initiates the combat and your gun is holstered. You will win the fight if you are determined, but stitches are a very strong possibilty.
It has been proven over and over again that 21' is a danger zone and if the assailant has a knife, or there are multiple targets, You are in trouble if/when they jump. I was at a gun show 15yrs ago and a guy was offering 20bucks to anyone who could take it from under his foot while spray pepper spray. I got the 20bucks, but also got a face full. It would have stopped me eventually, but not immediately as advertised. 7yds is too close to be empty handed, or caught looking the wrong way, because Your looking at gettin "Chitlins on the Floor" if You do not take charge and try to keep the situation from escalating. Cop's get backup, I as a CCW do not have backup, but I do not try to find trouble.
