Hey, I was browsing through one of the usenet groups and spotted someone posting a link to GunBroker where he was auctioning off a couple of Gatling guns. One is based on the .30 Carbine and the other had a couple of 10/22s. I've seen these at some of the gun shows, and they look like they would be hell on the local squirrel population around here. :uzi:

But here's a question: If someone were to take off that hand turned crank and put on an electric motor, does that then become an illegal full auto? My gut feeling is that the answer to that one is "yes", but thought I would see what you all think.

Damn!

I was looking through an older version of Gun Week the last couple of days and saw an article on a REAL Gatling gun designed to shoot .22LR. I think it said it had 10 barrels on it. But with the high cap magazine ban, the limit to 10 rounds makes it pretty much useless.

Damn I hope that jackass law sunsets. I'll bet there is going to be one hell of a battle when it is come up. What scares me even more, is how many times have we seen and "incident" take place when legislation like this was coming up to the table?

For sure, someone is going to go on a rampage at some school somewhere using assault rifles and high capacity magazines.

Bet on it.....

Gatling gun

The Gatling gun has no functional "magazine" it is,in its original configuration, fed by a hopper with feed strips holding X amount of rounds. I guess what I am saying is you would just dump the ammo into the hopper using the feed strips to keep them oriented in the right direction.Hope this helps. :)

I hope I saved that magazine, but this version of the Gatling gun apparently used magazines. I would be curious to see how a hopper fed mechanism would keep all the cartridges aligned in the proper orientation. But it sure would be fun to burn a lot of .22s that way!

.22 Gatling

You must be refering to the Gatling kit that uses two barrelled recievers from Ruger's fine little 10/22.I have also seen these that use the M1 .30 carbine and one that uses a pair of AKs. I have thought of making my own out of sheet metal and some 2X2 angle. The trigger crank is geared so it will fire four shots per revolution and shouldn't be hard to fabricate.I am a certified welder and a fabricator by trade and love to tinker around wit a good idea like that.If I ever get started I will post some pics for all to enjoy. Steve

And by the way,I love the site and will try to spread the word about it.Keep up the good work.:)

Actually the gun I saw was a REAL Gatling gun with rotating barrels. Looked REALLY neat.

Thanks for helping out here. I wish I could get more of the traffic I have coming here stick around, but I just seem to get a lot of people passing through. I will have to shut off the traffic spigot pretty soon, because it really eats up my wallet paying per click in the search engine sponsored links. But every time I turn it on, I get a few more people to stick around for a while.

I need to find some REAL talkers for this place.

Thanks.

gatling gun info

Hi, I saw one of the guns you are talking about. It is a 22 cal gatling gun replica in small scale. I saw it at a gun show in Tampa a few years ago and thought it would be pretty fun to shoot. If you find one post it on here. I would buy one. Also if the welder wants to fabricate a version of the 10/22 dual gatling gun, I would provide the rifles and mags. if you build one for less than the $400 dollar kits they have online!

Then a question. If you have a gatling gun and you put a spring that is wound up like a clock and it turns the handle, now is that a full auto?

I'm guessing that if the gun fires without manual operation the BATF would find it to be full auto.
