3 seconds, for master rating and reality of a defensive shooting nature, because it's extremely unlikely that anyone is going to be holding STILL more(and fully exposed) than 1.5 seconds after shots are fired at him or his buddies. That 1.5 seconds what nearly all pistol confrontation type scenarios should be max timed at, including the draw, or else the timing should start with gun in hand. With the rifle,it's a bit more likley that you will get to START the fight, so the 1.5 seconds could be applied after the first shot is fired.

Guess what 1.5 seconds means to the average guy, starting hands in a typical (unaware) start position and a ccw belt rig? It means he at MOST fires one WILD point shot. :) that's reality, too. 1.5 seconds is time enough for aman to charge and FLYING tackle you, standing start, from 15 ft away. Guess how far away most "crap" starts, hmm? 6 ft or less. Nearly 90% of the time, a CIVILIAN type defensive shooting situation will START at15 ft or less, and most attacks do NOT have a gun in the hand of the attacker.

Longer time intervals should be fired only at either MOVING torsos (in a dodging fashion) or heads that "bop" around cover, about 1.5 second per "exposure". Anything slower than the above just leads to stupidly unrealistic evaluations of what is feasible to achieve in combat.

Ask the Rangers who were in Mozambique at WHAT ranges they did MOST of their firing, and they will say 50m, with a LOT of it at 25m, and A LOT OF MISSING still occured. So don't KID yourself about the time you will have in which to hit (except by LUCK) or the ranges at which you will be firing. People aren't stupid enough to just be standing in the open, waiting to be shot, when hostilities are in the offing, and no, you WONT be taking nice, slowfire shots as autorifles pour lead in your direction.

ANYPLACE that there's likely to be "crap"

kick off, there's going to be cover, and people are going to USE it, and they will be using autoloading guns to fire at you, and the ranges will be much shorter than you "think".
