as an unarmed response, inside 3-4 ft, where trouble OFTEN starts, and WAY too often, the loads chosen for pocket guns are FAR less likely to suffice than is a kick to the nuts or knee, finger gouge to eye or hollow of throat. OFTEN, an armed response will get you in BIG trouble, and an unarmed response would have been perfectly adequate (against a drunken, petite woman, elderly or handicapped man, 12 year old boy, etc.) There's also times when you just aint GOT a gun, have it in a condition that's NOT fast enough into action, it can malfunction, etc.
