During recent discussions, this post from 2007 came to mind;

"It is impossible to prepare for every scenario, that's a simple fact. Yes this is a firearms forum, so you have many dedicated shooters here. Everyone has limitations within their lives, financial, family, location, temperature fluctuations, etc. What you should do is take a hard look at your own personal situation and plan for that. One persons plans, might be right for him, but not for your particular situation.

Yes, I'm one of those with too many firearms to carry, but then I shoot 3 different disciplines. This gets me more practice under a variety of circumstances. This also gives me extra firearms in case "the balloon goes up" for family members. I have also the opportunity to find out what works and what doesn't

I believe in a 6 option approach to the problem;

Option 1: Depart ahead of time to a prepared location;
Option 2: If required, stay in place, with stored kit;
Option 3: Departure of area with some sort of vehicle, with a variety of kit
Option 4: Departure of area with 3,200 cu in ruck, rifle, webbing
(prepared for 10+ days)
Option 5: Departure of area with 1,900 cu in patrol pack, rifle, webbing
(prepared for 3-4 days)
Option 6: Departure of area with rifle, webbing
(prepared for 1-2 days)"

how you gonna CARRY all those options? counting upon being able to drive to a BOL is bs, cause that will mean many more people can and will drive there, also, and it also counts upon not running into roadblocks (and you will) Guys won't be dumb enough to just stand out there in the road. They will put vehicles across the road (which barely run, but can be moved) and have rifle-capable protection set up as crossfiring ambush breast works and you will not be able to drive thru or around them.

They wont be as dumb as you are. They will be set up at a curve, in thick cover, where they will be above you, so that merely going prone will offer you almost no cover from their fire. You'll have to run a motocycle guy out in front of your convoy, and all it will take to get him is a hunk of fishline. that threat will keep him at 10mph or less, and you'll have to keep in touch with him (or keep him in sight) and be ready to go bail him out when (not if) it's required. A few sticks with nails in them will suffice to stop vehicles, for later use as roadblocks.

the only viable travel will be offroad, on a motorcycle or mountain bike, at night, with NVD goggles, or maybe a snowmobile or boat, depending upon time of year and terrain. without a silencer, the first shot you fire is likely to call in your killers. Sad situation, Canada and no balls.

Really how, thick are you? There is nothing mentioned at all about various methods of transportation that someone can use! Or is your fantasy world the only thing you are able to comprehend?

This is all about different decisions that can be made over different periods of time. So do you have any options or are you just glued to your fantasy?

I also have "too many guns to carry", and I'd bet heavily that that's true of most people on these forums.

I don't see that as a bad thing, anymore than it's inherently bad, detrimental or dangerous to have too many shoes to wear, too many groceries to carry, or too much ammunition to lug around on my person.

Melvin, you have no idea if I have a well stocked secondary location or not. You have no idea if I have caches on the way, or not. You have no idea the multiple types of transportation that I have access to, or not. Melvin you have no idea how difficult it is to run ambush drills on the bald arse prairie (fortunately I do) . As regard for routes to and from a secondary location you have no idea of the amount of secondary or techerary (sp?) roads available to me, where you rarely see others or will only come in contact with small numbers. Melvin get out of the city an explore!

some people "think" that I bother to read their posts, after I put them on ignore, too. :)
ROFLMAO! Then why reply to them consistently you liar?
The Shattist at it again. The only thing from Africa you remind me of is a caged shit slinging ape mad at the world for all his own mistakes that got him in a cage of his own making.

Sometimes I wonder if his internet persona is just a way of venting his frustrations?
Seriously if he'd lay off it so would I. There's only certain categories of people that are in my automatic whack-a-ahole category and he's not even close. And I ain't disclosing the categories beyond it having to do with violent premeditated acts.
So no I don't have it in for him as much as he or others may imagine.
I'll even do something to evidence a bit of trust.

I'm still waiting for Melvin's options. Maybe he's going to sell his 69 year old butt to a Warlord in Oklahoma, to rape, loot and plunder the unprepared?

Oh, wow! Listen before I head off to the hospital emergency room for some much needed psychiatric care I think I should point out that THIS TIME our resident schizophrenic nut case isn't so far off the mark. In fact this is the very first time in the past 10–12 years that I (almost) agree with him for a change! (I know; I know; it scares me too!)

I am reminded that it is written: "The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD." (Prov. 21:31)

At the present time I am too old to run. I spent my life winning all of my battles; and, now, I get to live with what Is left of myself. (Old age is like a bad joke!) Like so many others I, too, have all of the tools and weapons necessary to survive in the outdoors for an extended period of time; BUT, I no longer have the physical strength and endurance required to complete the task. (Actually, it's all as sad as it seems to be inevitable. All ya gotta do is to keep on winning, keep on breathing; and, voilà, it'll happen to you too!)

For a demonstrable fact, I know more about: homesteading, preparation, and survival than any other ten men I know, and I still can't take care of myself and my own in the same way that I once could. (I have taught decorated military snipers how to improve their own survival skills and shooting; but, nowadays, I have to put on a pair of reading glasses before I can see clearly through one of my $1,000 dollar + rifle scopes!)

From the extensive survival reading and preparation work I've done, there seems to be only one viable solution for people like myself: If I and my family are going to survive a civil holocaust then we're going to have to do the same thing that FerFAL (Fernando Aguirre) did in order to survive during Argentina's economic collapse and social upheaval back in the late 1990's. FerFAL also had the guns, tools, and survival supplies as well; but none of those things really saved him.

The big deciding factor in FerFAL's situation turned out to be the mutual survival and self-defense pacts he was able to form with a dozen, or so, of his neighbors. And, because my neighbors are cattle farmers this might not be such a bad idea. They could use the additional security, supplies, and manpower; and as for me, hey, I still need to eat!

(I would also be the only reasonably competent battlefield Corpsman in the group.)

Option #1, most of us who have worked and spent our money wisely have this option.

Didn’t FerFal finally decide to quit ‘kicking against the pricks’ and just moved to Spain or Portugal?
According to: Fernando "Ferfal" Aguirre - The TSP Survival Wiki

Retreat Owner Profile: Mr & Mrs. "FerFAL" in Buenos Aires, Argentina

AGE: 28. Formerly living in Buenos Aires suburbs.

BACKGROUND: Parents emigrated to Spain after 2001 crisis. Both grandparents emigrated to Argentina from Spain, escaping Franco civil war. Its is ironic that their children-grandchildren escape the country that once sheltered them, back to the country they ran away from but now, 50 years later, is one of the most powerful and prosperous countries in Europe. There’s a lesson there. Countries fall and rise, always have and one has to admit the possibility of leaving it looking for greener pastures.

INVESTMENTS: None. No money in bank accounts either. We only deposit money in our debit accounts just to take advantage of some discount, we deposit the money right before we use it, most of the time within the same week. We never leave money sitting in a bank account. After what happened, most people, including us, don’t trust banks with our money any more. It has become common for people to store cash in bank’s safety boxes, but even those are getting emptied due to some cases in which the private safes have been opened by government officials. (Against the constitutional right to privacy, and private property, of course.). We have credit cards but we don’t use those either, we only keep them for emergencies. We have a safe where we keep about 2,000 Pesos ($600 USD) and $1,000 USD just in case of an emergency, or someone getting kidnapped and needing ransom money fast (express kidnapping).

HOUSE: 1000 liter reservoir water tank. Metal bars/grating on windows/backyard door. 7 foot metal fence, topped w/foot long spikes. Pay for private security (kiosks w/guards on each corner). Polluted water, so we pay for contaminated water. We have water filter. Keep lots of flashlights, along with regular batteries and rechargeable ones.

VEHICLES: Streets are in awful conditions, and the constant roadblocks by “piqueteros” are rough on cars. Some kind of small 4x4 is obviously preferable to a sedan car. My car is set up with GNC, meaning it runs both on gas an natural compressed gas.

FIREARMS: Glock 31 357 sig. Ammo is expensive/hard to get. Back ups chambered for popular rounds, such as 1911, 357 mag revolver, Bersa Thunder 9mm, two 9mm Hi Powers. FM [FN clone] FAL carbine, and FMK3 9mm SMG. Mossberg 500 w/light. 500 rounds 308 & 7.62mm NATO, 1000 rounds 9mm +P JHP, 200 12 ga 00 buckshot.

Have been in a few “complicated” spots so far; being armed/alert made the difference in more than one occasion. The mere presence of my gun was enough to stop the threat, without need of ever shooting anyone.

Doesn’t make sense to plan on shooting hundreds of rounds and not getting fire in return, so I also have concealed level II body armor which for peace of mind - one of my most precious possessions.

FOOD STORAGE: 6 months of food/water.

MEDICAL: Lots of medicines. Big supply of hand/disinfectant soap/cleaning products to ensure hygiene. 3rd world countries are full of diseases due to general poverty -- prevention is important.

FUEL STORAGE: 30 liters in plastic cans, enough to get to airport or out of city. Not planning on leaving house during civil unrest, rather “hold the fort” until I can leave.

WORST CASE SCENARIO: Another Dec-2001 would be pretty bad, meaning anarchy, social unrest, looting mobs invading homes -- happened before. Worried about our government being friends with Chavez and Fidel, this county will end up socialist/communist if it continues to go in that direction.

MY SURVIVAL PLAN: Already made up our minds about leaving. This country will only go down hill in next few years, and censorship and lies about things being better is downright scary. Many years will have to go by, a lot of blood-bullets will be wasted before it's better. So we have two make sure we are safe for the next couple of years, until we leave. This means being extra cautious and vigilant, bordering the paranoid line, to keep us all safe.

CONCLUSION: Prepare as well as you possibly can without turning it into a compulsive thing. I prepare to survive and live a rich life, not the other way around. I don’t live just to worry about the sky falling. The sky has already fallen for me and we’re still here. Things are bad, pretty bad if you want to torment yourself and research further into the corruption and violence in this country.

We simply accept the fact that this country has changed, and is now too dangerous, too corrupt, insecure and too primitive for the standard of life we look forward to, and we take the necessary measures, meaning we move out of it and start a life somewhere else
And, finally, here's the video: Interview With El Señor Fernando Aguirre (FerFAL)

Just because a location is readily driven to, doesn't mean it is obvious or even appealing. I know a few places that people would drive right past or even walk past without even knowing they are there.

Not all vehicles are created equal. I know some jeep trails that unless you have a high clearance vehicle with a lot of articulation, you aren't driving to. One of the stretches is called the devils staircase. That eliminates 95% of the population.

why are there road blocks? what is the scenario you are envisioning, and explain how Garand's situation will guarantee that they are there. Can you do this?

Even if you're using a silencer, the first shot back at you negates your premise about a silencer not calling in everybody.

even if you're running at night, the other guys can have NODs too. They also can booby trap trails. You aren't going cross country without any means of navigating, and you've basically admitted to being unable to use a map ad compass.

I fall under this umbrella also, but if push comes to shove and we have to leave on foot, there is no reason that the excess not required at that moment couldn't be cached close by and then recovered if required at a later date once you know your secondary location is secure. A prepper that tries to examine all possibilities probably would have considered that.

What I find amazing when I look at my Options list, with the exception of the cost of your truck or SUV, Options #2-6, for 2 people with 2 budget rifles and 2 budget handguns and food for a 6 week period would cost in the previous decade about $5000.00. I wonder how much money Melvin spent getting "wifey"?

There's really no telling how much.
Plus wifey #1 #2 or #3 ? Now?
But, that's his choice and fate. Like him marrying P.R.
that was a pair that really deserved each other IMHO.
He's just trying to use these young ladies as temporary legal, and that's stretching it, gun moll's.
Pretty soon someone will figure it out at ICE and he'll be back on ice; if it's a slow day or something.
