Well if it's old news I'd like to know about the details. Must not have been too big or the web search I just did would have turned it up.

Plus it just got a passing mention at PN when I did a search there.

Whats the deal with this?

OSHKOSH POLICE CONDUCT DOOR TO DOOR GUN CONFISCATIONS

TYRANNY ALERT!

OSHKOSH POLICE CONDUCT DOOR TO DOOR GUN CONFISCATIONS

Shooting of Oshkosh police officer results in knee jerk neighborhood gun grab

Oshkosh, Wis. -- Following the shooting of an Oshkosh police officer Saturday night, area residents were forced from their homes, their lawful firearms being confiscated by police.

The Oshkosh Police Department's Special Weapons and Tactics Unit responded to the area, with a K-9 police dog in pursuit of the perpetrator who was reported to have fled on foot.

Citizens' guns were seized through searches of area homes. The police promised to return the firearms after forensic tests proved they were not involved in the crime. The injured officer's name was withheld, but media reports indicate his condition is not life-threatening.

"The message is: Hand over your guns, now!" said Corey Graff, executive director of Wisconsin Gun Owners Inc. "This is a blatant case of guilty-until-proven-innocent and an abuse of police power."

Still, residents in the area are furious about the home invasions by police and what they see as theft of their property. Although early reports are unclear, they indicate a search warrant was issued for two homes, yet additional home owners also had firearms confiscated.

"We want the perpetrator of this crime caught and brought to justice just like everyone else," said Graff. "But that doesn't mean the police should trample citizens' 4th amendment protections, steal lawful private property and enter the home without reasonable suspicion or warrant."

One homeowner in the area said his guns were taken by police, guns that hadn't left his gun safe since last hunting season. Another victim of the police searches -- an elderly women -- reported waking up to officers' searching her home in the early morning hours.

The Oshkosh Northwestern reported, "Residents were not being allowed to return to their homes by press time." "

there will be steadily more such stuff, ESPECIALLY if Bush is reelected, and if Repbulicans retain control of Congress. The Patriot Act gives Big Brother the same powers that the Nazis had. It's just WAITING to be implemented.

That's infuriating!& scary! The fact that it's been kept so low key bothers me most. It's one thing to read a weekly blurb where a cop tazes an 80yr lady-that's just stupid.IMO it's a whole different kettle of rotten tuna when cop(s) seek to trample the Constitution & then come out with a weak apology.
Lock & load indeed!Hire a cheap attorney who can read, convict 'em,& then behead them in the public square!

The alternative is Kerry.Who will just flip/flop through his four years VOTING against our rights as opposed to the Bush plan of taking them away by force....

You and your family could be gunned down in the street and they would barely give a sh^t, but if one of their fraternity get's a scratch, by golly, the Constitution becomes null and void.

The police, more and more, are considering themselves a separate, privileged class with special rights and considerations. One clear indicator of this is the current drive for a national ccw for retired police officers (but not for the rest of us).

I hate being subject to the slightest whim of every little despot around. Not much we can do at this point except keep a low profile. Perhaps shtf would be good. Its going to come although it will be terrible to experience.

41 Mag has my take on it why the low key response from press and all right minded citizens? The Officers need to be tried in court, the officers not directly involved, and knew of the incident and did nothing to stop it need to be charged with malfeasance?
This should be a MAJOR call to arms for Patriots!

Robert, this is not a cheap shot or a flame but do you - or does anyone - have any practical suggestions on what to do when the gun grabbers come to our personal neighborhoods. I think that 99.9% would submit meekly to government demands. Its hard for one person to fight overwhelming govt force.

To add, I'm not talking about shtf because we all kinda know what to do then but like in Oshkosh when the local police come a visiting.

The JPFO had a lot of detail on this emailed out a couple of days ago. I suggest everyone on this board send in the dues and join. Not only does it help you to protect your rights, but they help keep you very informed on current topics. The JPFO is my second choice followed by the GOA. It is that good.

Besides, it makes more people think my big nose is due to being a Jew than a ****, so that's a social improvement.....lol.

And here lie the crux of what killed both the militia movement and the patriot movement: who's going to be the first to actually back up the rhetoric? How many incidents have there been that should have been a "major call to arms"? Well, no call was made and no one showed up. Usually when events like this happens the most vociferous members of the groups (often the one spouting the most rhetoric in "normal times) immediately decry the situation as "not the one" that should provoke outright hostilities. In fact they decry anyone who suggests such as being reckless, too-hot-tempered, out of control, etc. In short the movement is their cause, NOT the freedom the movement was supposed to restore.

I once asked one of the loud shouters who would do what is necessary if any action was taken in incidents such as this. You know, the guys that actually go and FIGHT the tyranny, not just whine about it on websites, they can't ever go home again. Their lives are over. So now who's going to take in them and their families, aid them in avoiding the "authorities", taking the legal risk, since doing so is a crime? These people can never work again, the system would quickly pick them up, so who's going to feed, shelter, buy them clothes, etc for only the work the family can do around the house/property?

Know what the answer was? Silence, no answer. NO ONE would take the risk of doing what was necessary to harbor these people after "fighting for their rights". Therefore, EVERYONE knowing this, NOONE will volunteer to be the first sacrificial lambs (like the BRAVE men of Lexington green and Concord bridge) to get the ball rolling. Hence, the movement(s) are dead. And THAT's why "they" (whatever they're called in the PS circles today) will not do a major escalation, or roundups. Doing it slowly, one piece at a time, virtually guarantees there will be no serious response.

It would probably take a major, widespread, GK-style SHTF to prod anyone into a serious action.

So keep doing what you're doing, namely watching for you and your own, hopefully have several plans of escape, should that become necessary.

Raider,Kajun,Magnum;Good responses from all TY!
First let me thank all of you who are on ignore the attention whore,as I am now there too! plop plop fizz fizz!
This is an attack on my Nation and my Constitution by a local PD,AN ATTACK which is as deadly and dangerous as any McVeigh or Al Qeada has perpetrated.
The proper response , at least at this time, would have been to STAND FIRM,ASK "WHERE IS YOUR WARRANT" declare you Inability to comply as an American!
At least here in Georgia, the response would have been an arrest for "failing to follow the lawfull orders of a police officer, and the courts would have had the opportunity to respond to the legal/unlawful aspect-thence to civil court for redress: easy simple and responsible, tho it would have taken a small amount of backbone, and an understanding of our History and the constitution heh?
Which of course is why public schools no longer teach civics,or at least here in Georgia, even History to our school kids.
I do realize that there is the element which would advocate the killum all and the neibhors too an their dogs yee hawwww G-d help them and soothe their souls
