Pissing duels and name calling in posts

If I get more time to check on the posting going here, how about I just do through any thread and delete ALL replies that have any name calling, uncalled for jabs, or a general pissing duel flavor to it?

Will you all be happy then with what is left?

If you all can't just post information without flaming each other, then maybe this site is just as well gone so you all can go play elsewhere. I'll find some other use for this vBulletin license.

I just can't believe that so many supposedly grown men with like interests can be constantly at each others throats like I am seeing here. I thought this would be a pleasant departure from what I go through on my FaunaClassifieds.com site on my Board of Inquiry.

But this is actually worse. Pretty damned unbelievable, if you ask me. It's no damned wonder that the antigunners want to disarm us.... We can't even get along with ourselves, much less the public in general, if this is any indication of attitudes.

I'm pretty much disgusted with some of you and the way you act here. Do you act like this when you are not behind a keyboard?

If I can't say something nice, I won't say nothin' at all!

I guess I shouldn't take generalized statements personally even if they seem to be directed that way.

Guilty as charged.No I don't act this way on other forums.
Personally I would prefer to have this forum be as pleasant as some others I frequent.There does seem to be more than a bit of the childish acts going on here.Similar to the way it can get on Fauna & BC's forums.I mention these just as a reference.Some of the gun related sights I have visited are the same.
As was mentioned before I honestly believe that the best way to improve this place would be to increase traffic.A constant influx of newer posters would(obviously)dilute the bad apples.
Also,when I log in during the day & see 5-10 new posts that really say nothing I admit to getting a might discouraged.

they say nothing about meaningless

plinking , bullseye, and sport hunting you mean, and you neither know nor care about anything about meaningful uses of guns. sport-only gun use is meaningless. You can be "sporting" with a fly rod, or bow and arrow, but you can neither defendself, nor effectively resist tyrants with such gear.

I don't know about that, have you ever been snapped by a back cast from a flycaster?
Just because those issues are meaningless to you doesn't mean others won't enjoy them. Being so narrow minded about what you think is the only use for guns is not going to convince any of us that it is the truth.
Life is to short to limit yourself to only what is practical.

Sporting, hobby, collecting, plinking, target shooting, and anything else related to firearms specifically and arms in general is perfectly acceptable and welcomed on this site. Just because one or more of the topics is not your cup of tea is no justification whatsoever for belittling, or acting in a derogatory manner towards someone who has a different set of interests. If someone is looking for a site that is narrowly focused on only their particular interests, then I suggest they start their own site with that goal in mind, because THIS one is not it. Anyone believing that they can change THIS site to be that way had better sit down and think a little harder about this, and find something else to do with their time, because I will not allow that to happen here. If that is a necessity of you being here, then I suggest you be on your way.

I welcome everyone to participate in discussions where someone can learn something from them. In the same vein, it is my desire to have someone posting information to help, teach or guide the readers to do so in an informative and professional manner, and leave all the attendant "chip on the shoulder" attitude out of the postings. If you cannot bring yourself to post without the attitude, then perhaps it is best that what you need to say be left unsaid. It is just downright tiresome to read post after post and it has to stop.

Most information posted will be more opinion than fact, no matter how strongly someone may wish it to be otherwise. Interpretations of observed facts are descriptive opinions, not facts themselves. Both the facts and the opinions, no matter how correctly applied, are useless when the vehicle used for delivery in a public forum poisons the knowledge with a reason for readers to WANT to discount the information based on the lack of respect the deliverer has developed based on the manner in which they write. This is just plain stupid to do. It is a waste of the time for the poster to type in what could be good solid information, to only have it discarded and rejected out of hand. And it is also a waste of time for people to read such things with the only intention to dispute it based on the way the information was portrayed, WANTING the poster to be incorrect.

I have touched on this topic before, and it is apparent that it has not percolated from the retinas of the people involved into the gray mass of brain tissue that lies between the ears.

What is it going to take for me to get my point across about this?

I have looke your site over and find it embarrssing that you have one guy postin. I went back 11 days and saw the same ole stuff. I post on other forums regularly and those forums would never let themselves be hijacked for any reason. This is either a slow board or you think the man posting will bring in new blood. Sad indeed. Don

Rich, I can understand your problem but if you want traffic here you have to stand the flak. I don't like the name calling but thats what you are going to get. GK will never change and the men (and sometimes the solitary woman) will respond in like kind. We are all adults here. As my Mom said, "If you can't stand the heat then get out of the kitchen".

I accept that though I really don't like all the dissention and name calling.

Oh, I've had plenty of heat in my other sites, so this is nothing at all to me. I've been running a Board of Inquiry site for a couple of years, so this is nothing at all new to me. Matter of fact, I am just rather curious to see what will happen here. It only costs me $15 a year to register this domain name, otherwise it doesn't cost me anything to let it just run on it's own without too much intervention. I lease my own servers and I can put as many domains on them as I want to for no additional cost.

I know some people want me to take sides and "do something" about the other side, but no, that's not in the cards. To be honest, I really don't even care about some old feuds people have been having.

No, I'm just going to sit back and watch, make comments about things that interest me, and stay out of the middle of any battles that others may concoct for themselves. Heck, some of the stuff being posted is downright humorous, so I might as well get some entertainment from it as well.

Outstanding BB Rich

Thats for providing a platform for the free exchange of ideas and not trying to make another copy of Glock Talk or The Firing Line. They seem to be infested with snivling PC bed wetters, cookie cutter morons that will take up golf when duck hunting is outlawed.

The spirited discussions and broad range of topics seem to be sincere here. Censorship is not the answer and always stifles the creative thought that pushes the leaders to the front.

I would suppose someone like the unreg "Don" should maybe stick to reading American Rifleman and studying up on the Patriot Act so he can get get ready to inform on his neighbors.

............and a hearty thanks to you comrade Stillborn for your support of censorship as well.

Maybe you fine subjects would like to provide a list of state approved topics that we can discuss with in accepted perimaters.

It was an outstanding board that followed the same princible of true "Free Speech", till it changed hands and fell under the social engineering of it's new owner.

It too was a rowdy place, but grew to hundreds of members with dozens of post every day.

Let the whiners go someplace they feel safe and let the trolls play out there silliness, they will get bored. Folks will soon realize they don't have to respond to every post that gets made, they don't like it, pass. They want to talk about something different start another thread.

Like you said Rich, one things for sure there is never a dull moment and it is entertaining.
