If I get more time to check on the posting going here, how about I just do through any thread and delete ALL replies that have any name calling, uncalled for jabs, or a general pissing duel flavor to it?

Will you all be happy then with what is left?

If you all can't just post information without flaming each other, then maybe this site is just as well gone so you all can go play elsewhere. I'll find some other use for this vBulletin license.

I just can't believe that so many supposedly grown men with like interests can be constantly at each others throats like I am seeing here. I thought this would be a pleasant departure from what I go through on my FaunaClassifieds.com site on my Board of Inquiry.

But this is actually worse. Pretty damned unbelievable, if you ask me. It's no damned wonder that the antigunners want to disarm us.... We can't even get along with ourselves, much less the public in general, if this is any indication of attitudes.

I'm pretty much disgusted with some of you and the way you act here. Do you act like this when you are not behind a keyboard?

Sporting, hobby, collecting, plinking, target shooting, and anything else related to firearms specifically and arms in general is perfectly acceptable and welcomed on this site. Just because one or more of the topics is not your cup of tea is no justification whatsoever for belittling, or acting in a derogatory manner towards someone who has a different set of interests. If someone is looking for a site that is narrowly focused on only their particular interests, then I suggest they start their own site with that goal in mind, because THIS one is not it. Anyone believing that they can change THIS site to be that way had better sit down and think a little harder about this, and find something else to do with their time, because I will not allow that to happen here. If that is a necessity of you being here, then I suggest you be on your way.

I welcome everyone to participate in discussions where someone can learn something from them. In the same vein, it is my desire to have someone posting information to help, teach or guide the readers to do so in an informative and professional manner, and leave all the attendant "chip on the shoulder" attitude out of the postings. If you cannot bring yourself to post without the attitude, then perhaps it is best that what you need to say be left unsaid. It is just downright tiresome to read post after post and it has to stop.

Most information posted will be more opinion than fact, no matter how strongly someone may wish it to be otherwise. Interpretations of observed facts are descriptive opinions, not facts themselves. Both the facts and the opinions, no matter how correctly applied, are useless when the vehicle used for delivery in a public forum poisons the knowledge with a reason for readers to WANT to discount the information based on the lack of respect the deliverer has developed based on the manner in which they write. This is just plain stupid to do. It is a waste of the time for the poster to type in what could be good solid information, to only have it discarded and rejected out of hand. And it is also a waste of time for people to read such things with the only intention to dispute it based on the way the information was portrayed, WANTING the poster to be incorrect.

I have touched on this topic before, and it is apparent that it has not percolated from the retinas of the people involved into the gray mass of brain tissue that lies between the ears.

What is it going to take for me to get my point across about this?

Oh, I've had plenty of heat in my other sites, so this is nothing at all to me. I've been running a Board of Inquiry site for a couple of years, so this is nothing at all new to me. Matter of fact, I am just rather curious to see what will happen here. It only costs me $15 a year to register this domain name, otherwise it doesn't cost me anything to let it just run on it's own without too much intervention. I lease my own servers and I can put as many domains on them as I want to for no additional cost.

I know some people want me to take sides and "do something" about the other side, but no, that's not in the cards. To be honest, I really don't even care about some old feuds people have been having.

No, I'm just going to sit back and watch, make comments about things that interest me, and stay out of the middle of any battles that others may concoct for themselves. Heck, some of the stuff being posted is downright humorous, so I might as well get some entertainment from it as well.

Glen,

Good to see you showing your face in here again.

Yes, I agree with your assessment of the situation. I have been hoping that 223 fan/andy would eventually see the light and just drop the invective and derogatory comments. I had hoped that he would eventually realize that all that sort of attitude does is to defeat any possibility that anyone will take him seriously. If he posted and acted in a responsible and respectful manner, people would read what he is saying and ponder those words, rather than dismissing them right out of hand just because of who it is that is posting.

This is not brain surgery. People judge you just as much by how you say things as what you actually say.

But the real problem that seems to be escaping some people is that those people who respond to 223 fan/andy will be looked at in the same light by people who are not privy to the long standing conflict. As far as they will be concerned, those birds are all flocking together.

Since Rich has chosen to allow all comers equal right to be here then I look at him as the cousin at the reunion that nobody likes. I've just accepted the fact that there's nothing I can say that will get through his thick skull to help him see the error of his ways.
But I'm trying to be better, Clint......

Well, I have to admit that 223 fan/andy is probably not going to see the light and decide to act in a civil manner. Actually, I believe he has gotten worse, not better recently. To make matters worse, he is posting everything and anything across multiple forums, many of which are not relevant to the forums being posted in.

At first I thought this guy had just made some real enemies and they were bound and determined to drive him off the internet no matter where he went. I thought maybe this had put a major chip on his shoulder that would eventually come off if he realized that I personally, and the original people here, have no grudges against him if he acts civil.

It's not working......

So should I just admit that my experiment has failed? Bad traffic is no better (or maybe even worse) than no traffic?

Should I just slam the door on him to keep him out, or do I just slam the door on myself and stay the hell out of this myself and let whatever happens, happen?

Or was 223 fan/andy's original goal to destroy this board in the first place?

Yeah, I think 223 fan/andy does have information of value to share, but his attitude defeats any chance someone will take him seriously. When you start off a sentence with "stupe", "dummy", "asswipe", and any other number of endearments he habitually uses, most people immediately get a defensive attitude and will try like hell to prove him wrong rather than even consider what is being said. Hell, he probably has never used the technique of losing a battle in order to win a war.

To be perfectly honest, I don't have any clue at all why he even bothers to post. Is he trying to teach people something? Is it ego? Does he just like the attention?

Heck, I don't know. But I do know that REAL experts do not speak in the manner that he does. You cannot raise your stature or reputation by knocking down someone elses.

In another thread in this section I am discussing having someone take over some moderator duties. But how can I do that without telling a moderator to edit or delete abusive and derogatory comments to try to keep the peace?

I guess my major failing is thinking that everyone has at least a small portion of their brain that works logically and can be reached via logic and understanding.
