shot would be a viable shtf rifle. :) yeah, right, 87 gr softpoint, at 1450 fps. It doesn't even expand in flesh at that speed, and it only HAS 380 ft lbs. That's not even good performance from a 4" 9 x19 PISTOL, ferchrissakes. For LESS money than such a single shot 25-20 costs, you could have a Marlin Camp Gun, in 9mm, and have 20 rd mags, and be driving 90 gr jhp's to 1700 fps, for real expansion of the jhp and 600 ft lbs, and have 5 hits per second type of potential. Sheesh, why bother with the 25-20? It's the parent case for the .22 Hornet, which at least offers about twice the range and power of the 25-20.

If you don't hit a deer just right with the first shot, you probably won't get four more chances.

A lot of deer, black bear, turkey and rabbits were taken in the early 20th century with pistol powered lever actions. During a period of survival hunting and trapping, small game will be your best hope anyway. In my opinion, the best small game rifle for extended use might be a lever action .22WMRF, or .22LR with hot ammo.

If you are depending on small game for food, it would be stupid to use a .223 as it would ruin too much meat.

so WHO said shtf will JUST be about

FORAGING, hmm. EVERY loud shot you fire, is LIKELY to bring you enemies, within a few minutes or hours, and there you are with your stupid bolt action or single shot, TRYING to hold off half a dozen guys with AR's or AK's or Mini-14',s, or even "just" .22lr autorifles DUH. Best ALWAYS have real fighting potential, and hunt with THAT, dummy. The 9mm Camp Carbine has MORE power than the 25-20, even for "just' one shot. It also costs less, and its ammo costs MUCH less. So only a real TWIT would advocate the 25-20 instead of the 9mm carbine.

Where did I advocate the .25-20?

I did advocate the .22WMRF as an excellent choice for small game. A .22WMRF rifle can take any small food animal within 100 yards.

So, where do you plan on bugging out to? Central Park?

BTW, Ragnar used the .25-20 because his rifle was a professionally made at the factory rifle/silencer combo, manufactured and bought before the NFA.

He bought it from an old hillbilly. Ragnar knows how to shoot and how to hunt. That rifle is as quiet as a churchmouse.
