I am considering purchasing a Remington 597 for my son. I had been thinking of a Ruger All Weather, but he wants something else (remote control race car that cost about $400 - $450) so the money I save by buying the 597b instead of the 10/22 All Weather can get him started saving for the car. One way of the opther he is getting the money that would buy the Ruger All weather (about $250 plus tax) because it was a deal I made with him if he got his grades up. His school grades really went up - and he made the honor roll, so he worked for that money I tell you! I am hopefull he will like this deal better than just taking the money for the car; of course my reasons are a bit selfish since I enjoy shooting with him so much.

So please tell me, what do you think of the Remington 597. Is is as accurate and as dependable as an out of the box regular model Ruger 10/22. It is made as well? Is it as easy to disassemble and reassemble? Is it made of all metal working parts or have they reverted to nylon or other plastic type crap?

Please lot me know the plusses and minusses of this particular rifle based upon your experience with it. Thanks:madeuce:

Best regards,

I have one. It is very accurate, pleasant to shoot. The forestock is nice and wide, like a target rifle. It seems to digest just about everything I have fed it.

You probably would not regret owning one.

The 597 is a very good rifle. (I'm real partial to Remingtons). If you buy one, make sure it comes with a metal magazine. The originals were plastic and broke a lot. I'm sure all the ones now are metal, but it's possible that some old dealer stock might still have plastic.
